November 3rd, 2023 I was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic. I had ignored warnings, stayed overweight, manyana mentality. The shock was unbelievable and tbh I was terrified. So I start out with a determination I didn't know I had and lost 3stone in 5 months. Nothing since but no gains either.
Today I kick-start my weight loss by signing up to walk 100 miles in 40 days to raise funds for the homeless. 2.5 miles a day. (Social Bite, look them up if you want to know more).
I am following a lower carb diet, no more than 100 cards daily which combined with the walking should keep my blood glucose in check. Need to lose 2 stone and hope to achieve this by Christmas.
Any tips especially from Type 2 diabetics greatly appreciated.

Did you know that you actually don't need any carbs at all? and that while you've got more than a very low level of glucose in your blood the body blocks fat burning. The body has a mechanism for creating any glucose it needs from protein so you needn't worry about low blood sugar unless it's from the affter effects of an insulin spike or elite athleticism..
One way of getting the blood sugar down is to extend the time between your last meal of one day to the first meal of your next e.g by skiping breakfast or by eating your evening meal earlier. This is often called' intermittent fastin'g but is more rightly called 'time restricted eating'.
Some of the weight that you've lost will be from the decreased systemic inflammation that you're causing by eating carbs. Systemic inflammation can also be caused by the ingestion of refined seed oils (commonly called 'vegetable oil' so cut out these by only using butter, olive oil, coconut oil or natural animal fats lie lard or tallow for cooking and avoid processed foods.
Hi Sheilaslims, that is a fantastic achievement, what determination you show. Looking forward to following your progress, and seeing how you clock those miles off! My partner has got himself out of prediabetes range by exercising - mainly in the form of walking, daily, and cutting out ultra processed foods. We keep an eye hidden sugars - a lot of tinned food for example, and also pastries and breads as the starch turns to sugars. I am not for a minute assuming you are in our age range of late sixties!, so your body may be more efficient at processing it. Wishing you a lovely restart have a great week
