I’ve been following the nhs weight loss program for 5 weeks and have lost nothing! I have been ill (asthma) and have been gradually doing more excercise, have been keeping my food diary and think I’m within recommended calorie range most days. So frustrated not to have lost any weight. I have never been this heavy in my life, and have had a lot of steroids in the few months. I’m wondering whether to give up until I’m off the steroids. Any advice appreciated.

A few things I can suggest, Yellow-dog.

If you give up trying, the steroids could lead to a weight gain, rather than no loss.

If you post your meal plans on our Daily Diary we can offer advice for tweaks.

This may help healthunlocked.com/weight-l...

Good luck! :)

Hi yellow dog and welcome. Sorry to hear of your health and weight struggles . I just wanted to say that my son has chronic asthma but was put onto a flutiform inhaler about 2 years ago and it has changed his life. ( he's in his 30s, and spent much of his teen years in and out of hospital with severe attacks). Anyway, I know it is very expensive, he has to be pretty insistent at his review -though luckily his surgery have all his records and he's been on nearly every other itreatment. Anyway, he is able to exercise, plays tennis, cycles etc and has much more control of his weight. Obviously I don't know what meds your on but it might be worth having a chat with your asthma nurse if you haven't tried it. In terms of diet, I agree that staying the same in your current circumstances is better than giving up and gaining more so keep at it. Have a good week.

I would go armed with a food diary - say 2 weeks of everything you ate including drinks to your GP as you are taking this seriously . Weigh yourself before you start recording then afterwards before your appointment. Your medical needs whilst eating differently I feel need addressing by a professional and apart from the unprocessed , lower carbs etc which is what most of us embark on I couldn't give anything else as your meds may be a contributory factor . I would ask for a gradual start to exercise as even chair exercises or lying on a bed to build a routine where you can instantly stop and build up are things I have seen whilst browsing' You Tube' but from experience GP'S are happy to help .
