Feeling demotivated
Hiya. How long have you being doing the diet and what are you eating on your 500 cal days?
It's had the opposite effect on me is why I ask. It's totally cured my constipation (sorry TMI). I think it's because I eats loads of veg on fasting days.
It does take a while to settle into the hunger pangs. I find if I can get to lunchtime with nothing it's fine but if I struggle in the morning I struggle with hunger all day. I have a soup (homemade) at lunch and veg for tea, I make veg chillis and curries or have veg with brown rice
Hi,
When you say you are struggling with the 5:2 diet, can you give more details on what you have had to eat before you get to the point of struggling at 3pm.
I agree, it is tough to stick to the diet on fast days as your tummy will grumble and the feeling is uncomfortable! You can motivate yourself by thinking that your body already has enough calories/nutrition and that it will end up burning the fat around your organs. The reason I started with the 5:2 diet was because a blood test result from my GP indicated I had 'fatty liver'. The thought of my liver covered in fat motivated me to try my best to get rid of it.
I would recommend that you try eating low calorie feeling food such as soups, thick smoothies and food high in protein such as eggs/chicken, on fast days.
Atleast you can eat normally on the following day with the 5:2 diet, so that should help you along...
Good luck and keep going. The results are well worth the effort!
Hey, stick with it and it will get better! Think about what you're eating, both on and off fast days.. you need to make sure you're eating lots of veggies and fiber, hopefully this will help. I've found dried apricots and raisins are very good to help constipation.
I've found eating something small (around 100 calories) at about 11am is good to help keep me going until later on in the day. I usually have a soup with lots of vegetables, you could try having half a portion of soup around 3pm and the other half in the evening.
The most important thing is to try drink as much water as possible! I find if I don't drink enough water then I get awful migraines and feel very sick. Try and drink 2L of water every day, especially on fast days.
Good luck!
Iv been using the lighterlife shakes and soup I'm not sure what food to eat think I'm going to get the book and have anouther go at what sort of food do u eat x
You really need to ditch the Lighterlife shakes. They are full of sugar and gum, and have little fibre, so they will contribute to your constipation.
Hi,
I am not sure if mixing two different diets is a good idea. I have not tried Lighterlife, but it looks like they may not be keeping you feeling satisfied.
If you search for 5:2 receipes, you will be able to find many recipes that would help you keep you full. The following website maybe worth browsing for ideas.
The foods I find filling but still have low calories are as follows:
- Porridge (Ready break) or Weetabix for breakfast
- Any freshly made Soup. The following Parsnip soup recipe was quick and tasty.
itv.com/thismorning/food/fe...
- The Apple flapjack in the above recipe was also tasty and filling as oats are high in protein.
- Greek Youghurt with freshly cut fruit such as strawberries for desert
- Chicken Stew from Jamie Olivers Save with Jamie recipe book.
The following blog explains the recipe - The Stew is tasty even without the dumplings, but it is
worth using generous amout of fresh Thyme herbs.

We tend to make an extra quantity of this stew and use it the next day to make a really tasty
Chicken Lasagna or Pie.
Good luck!
One tip regarding Jamie Oliver's Chicken Stew recipe is to halve or even quarter the quantity of flour and butter for the dumplings as we found that this gives room for the dumplings to expand and fluff up nicely. It is also healthier as it reduces the calories in the dish.
Not sure how long you've been doing 5:2 for but I got very bloated & sluggish on my 3rd week, and could go to the loo, that pasted now though! So maybe it's your body adjusting! I do think you should ditch the shacks, swap it for soup or salad then at least your eating something, that might stop the 3pm hunger pain!! Or save a few cals for a snack, I snack on celery on fast days 100g is 10cal and it's filling!! Also I made sure I was eating plenty of fiber on my normal days to help me go to the loo!! Good Luck x
