Tomorrow on the 6th of May I'm going to start my weight loss journey!

I've struggled with my weight, eating and mental health most of my life but finally I feel like I'm in good enough spot I could start taking this seriously again. I've been worried my health lately due to my obesity and I feel like, if I don't start now everything could get worse fast. I joined this site to keep the motivation up with daily or weekly updates on my journey, maybe be able to help and motivate others as well as make friends along the way :)

Welcome Stoniston. Sorry to hear you’ve had such struggles with food and mental health -its not always easy to face up to these things yourself so you’re making a good first step by saying it here. Do you have a particular strategy in mind with regard to an eating plan and/ or working on your level of fitness. Anyway, lots of ideas and support on here so join in. Wishing you a successful start to your to your journey.

Hey, thanks for your comment :)

I've lost a lot of weight once before, where I went from 150kg to 85kg in 2 years so I have some experience in it. I usually like to start small, like in this case by starting gym training, mostly lifting and such. I also have a longer walk to the gym so I get some cardio at the same trip. My gym has swimming pool as well, so I'm probably going to start swimming at somepoint as part of my cardio.

I don't like fixing everything at the same time and for me eating is usually the hardest part. Therefore, I want to make going to the gym a routine first and then focus on eating plan. That worked for me last time.

Hi StoniSton and welcome to our forum. You will find lots of motivation and support here and as you say you will defiinitely be able to make friends too. We are like a family here.

You sound in a similar situation to the one i was in just over 3 years ago. Weight and mental health both a problem. With my family on here and a determination of my own i've lost half my weight with just a couple of kg to go to the weight i want to stop at. Its not always been easy, whenever my mental health takes a battering its really hard to stay on my eating plan but i have to tell you that not only has losing the weight made me healthier, it has helped improve my mental health too. I haven't had a panic attack (not even a mini one) in 2 years and if something derails me, i am much quicker to recover - we are talking hours or days rather than a week or longer.

Here's a link to our Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/weight-l... Have a good look through them and when you are ready get joining in. We advise anyone new to join in with the Weekly Weigh In (on a day of your choice) and the Daily Diary as a minimum. The support you will get on these is second to none.

We also regularly have challenges so have a look at the Spring Challenge and see if that's for you too.

As a peer to peer support forum, the more you put in, the more you get out. So once you've familiarised yourself with how everything works, jump in with both feet and you wont look back :-)

If you get stuck or need help with anything, just shout out.

Best of luck xx

Hey, thanks for the comment!

It's great to hear that you've been able to go far in weight loss already! Getting healthy really makes your mind better as well as you can get enjoyment from simple things like just a walk around the neighborhood. It can clear your mind. The feeling of getting closer to the main goal is truly a great feeling but the struggle can be hard even after a great work you've put into it. We are all human and it's normal to have ups and downs once and a while but the main thing though is to treat yourself sometimes. I used to have cheat days where I ate anything I wanted for one day and rest of the week was very strict. I worked out 5 times a week at the gym and went for runs every morning doing either 10km or interval training. That one day usually made me disgusted of what I ate and didn't make me want any of it for the rest of the week. Sometimes I didn't even have that day because I didn't want any.

I lost 65kg once already but due to a toxic relationship I was in, it destroyed all my self-confidence and made me hate working out because of comments I got from my ex. That's the reason I stopped caring for a long time, but now I've really begun thinking about myself and what I want for my future. That has given me new light to try out.

I've tried to get back to losing weight before but it's been very difficult, especially since I got myself into very bad shape physically. I have friends and family that support me no matter what, but sometimes it's just mental thing because they're not going through the same thing as me. That's why I thought of joining a group like this. I know I'm not the only one going through this struggle.

Hey there!

Taking that step to start your weight loss journey is a big deal! It's okay to have had struggles with weight, eating habits, and mental health in the past. But recognizing that you're in a good spot to take this seriously again is massive progress in itself.

Just remember, it's a journey, not a race. Be patient and kind to yourself as you make changes. Sharing your journey here can give you the support and motivation you need, and it might even inspire others too. Don't be afraid to ask for help or advice along the way, and don't forget to celebrate every little win! You've got a whole community here rooting for you. You've got this!

The first step to weight loss is always the hardest, but after a while with a little of determination you will learn to yearn for it. Just start with small steps and raise the tempo when you feel like it. Main thing is to try do even that small step.
