Oh it's been a major problem this week gman1961 A huge number of STS with weight staying around no matter what has been tried. So you are not alone! Good to see you here today 🌈
Thanks gman1961 look forward to seeing you. ❤️ If you have been cycling you're amazing as it's been more like an ❄ icerink around here. We're all learning to walk penguin 🐧 fashion 😂 👍 🌈
All I can think of, Gary, is that whenever you're struggling, you talk about exercise rather than what you're eating, when the reality is that food is by far the greater contributor to weight gain. We have, and have had, members who are severely limited in what exercise/activity they can do but have successfully lost weight
That's a really good point BridgeGirl is making and TheTabbyCat made a similar point to me earleir in the week when she said "You can't outrun your unhealthydiet!" as I've been bemoaning the fact that I haven't managed to get my steps in at all this past week and I have eaten rubbish or been eating out and so not being in control of what I am eating... So I must start focusing on what I'm really eating over the next few days and weeks gman1961 🌈
It’s so hard with the weather, chocolate left over from Christmas. There are so many reasons, excuses, it’s hard to motivate yourself. So easy steps gman1961 let’s just take it easy, and hopefully get through January without putting in. 🙂
I am 100% what I eat . Currently in London in a very expensive but room only hotel but sadly eating junk at odd times . I look large and feel large . Feb is the target . 3 meals , no snacks and no eating after 7 and no alcohol . Let’s see
Ok , I don’t have dinner until 7 so it’ll be after 8pm for me. 3 meals, no snacks, no eating after 8, that’s a real biggy for me! I’ll probably have a glass of red wine though, but not every night, with my dinner.
I just had a bad week. I was doing great then when I weighed it was 8 pounds I had gained in a week. There are a lot of reasons it goes up and down. For myself, I try to look at the trend over a period of time rather than one specific weight. I hope that helped some.
Hi Gary sorry to hear you are struggling . Think that BridgeGirl makes a very good point though. You haven’t said anything about food , whether you are struggling and snacking or whether you are okay with healthy eating. During the time I’ve taken to lose 4st 7 lbs the only “exercise” I’ve done is walking round the local area - just the streets near home . Quite honestly I couldn’t run for a bus even if my life depended on it. So my weight has all come off with a healthy diet . Perhaps that’s something you need to sit down and look at . You may get ideas from the daily diary section though I’ve actually not used it myself I know a lot of members post on there. I do hope you can get yourself back on your weight loss journey before too long .
Hello Sue. What a lovely supportive response and so true…we can easily fool ourselves that extra biscuits etc don’t make a difference…when it all adds up! 🌼
Hi Alideer I definitely agree with you there . I sometimes find myself opening the uscuit box and thinking oh I’ll just have another ginger thin then I realise one thin is an extra 21 calories that I might not have spare that particular day.
Love your bit below too, the bit about we’ve done it before and done it well and can do this again- onwards and downwards for us all this year.
Yes, Sue…last year was tricky in lots of different ways for so many of us. It will be good to focus on getting back on track again…looking forward to our weigh in tomorrow!🌼
Hi Alideer it will be lovely focussing on weight loss - I need to get health issues resolved or at least on the way to being sorted. ENT yesterday he did another manoeuvre on me as he said he must have moved the crystals to another part of inner ear. At the moment having a few issues with dizziness this morning but trying to ignore them. I’m hoping it will sort itself gradually
Sounds like you’ve got a good plan there. That took some willpower not to eat when others did so well done.
When I’m next hosting think early March it would be great to see a weight loss badge next to your name ( doesn’t matter what exactly) - I have great faith in you achieving this so onwards and downwards we all go joining you on your journey .
Thats a great loss. Well done. I can’t walk far atm I have dodgy knees, which hopefully will improve with the weather. Well done for sorting a healthy diet. Thank you for your inspiring post
Hi Cockneyblue lovely to hear from you and thank you so much. I have a bit of osteoarthritis in my knees especially my right one but since I lost weight my walking has improved slightly so am hoping with a weight loss yours may improve. I’m not suggesting you should try to lose 4st 7lbs but a slight loss may help- hope so.
Thank you. I had a knee replacement 15 years ago and feel very lucky that it’s lasted this long. It’s the other knee now. I’m sure you are right, any loss would help my knees. Time to give them a lift by losing some weight.
Hello gman1961 …the first two lines of your post could have been written by me…until this last week. Like you I had lost the confidence that I could do this…so much of this battle is in our minds. I almost didn’t weigh in at all last Monday but the support I received from our friends here made me take a good hard look at what I was doing. I’ve been hitting the self destruct button and have regained 2 stone 2lbs and lost several badges last year.
I think you are right when you say you feel in a rut and yes, there is so much rubbish about. I cleared my kitchen cupboards ruthlessly and took any temptation into work…I left it in the staff room before anyone was about because I was so embarrassed. Now to keep the momentum going…
We’ve done this before Gary…and done it well…we can do this again. Sending positive thoughts to you.🌼
I have been really heartened by reading your post Gary, and all the lovely responses to it, as it could have been written by me too, so thank you for being so up front with your struggle this week. I have lost couple of the Christmas pounds, put them back on again, repeat.... and it gets dispiriting after a while! At least I have managed last week to stop the "just a glass of wine tonight" habit, with four days dry, which is my start. Next week, ie from tomorrow, I will stop the "just one treat" twice a day (!) habit - there, I've said it now, so I had better stick with it! Hope you have a better week this week - if we are back on track by the end of the month that will be great! Thank you again for your post 👍
Agreed, it is much easier to tell oneself "I'll post when I've got good news" or "I don't want to spoil the stats" or "Maybe I am getting too fixated on my weight"! I am a calorie counter too, when I'm doing this mindfully, and I haven't really been doing it for weeks now - I shall start the day with counting my breakfast calories too - have a great day!
it’s been a while since I’ve been on here. I’d forgotten how kind and inspirational you all are. Thank you. You help me understand that my feelings are not isolated. January is a difficult month too. Thank you again.
Yes, Cockneyblue …our forum is a real life changer and I think we are so lucky to have found it. I used to feel I was the only person struggling and to find out that we are not alone is a powerful feeling. Plus I’ve learned some great meal ideas too!🌼
January is a hard month as it is & having a cold spell after such a mild November & December is a really shock isn’t it.
It was my hubby’s birthday last weekend & our anniversary of getting together this weekend so I have had a couple of meals out , wine & a takeaway.
It’s scary that I can be in my weight zone I want to stick to during the week or almost & then by Sunday morning have put on almost 1.5kg 😢
I will re-focus from Monday as it’s a while before the next celebration which is my cousin’s wedding reception & our wedding anniversary in middle of April .
You don't say how far your daily walks are but you may be better off dropping your weekend walk and doing a session with the dumbell and rower as that will build up muscle which can store more glycogen which will stabilise your blood sugar and stop your liver turning the glycogen into the triglycerides which go to buid up bodily fat. This as well as keeping a tight rain on your carbohydrate consumption. Watch out for hidden sources of carbs, I recently found that the 'no added sugar' baked beans that I had been buying were packed with 'modified starch' which turns to sugar as soon as ingested.
Daily I'm doing about 30 - 60 minutes about 1 and half hours at the weekend.I used to run 3 x weekly but not running at the moment.
Gary
Hello my lovely. Ahh Gary I think there's a few struggling with the post Christmas slump, me included. I've took a few tips off the gang maybe I'm not eating enough!. Keep pushing because eventually the rut will budge and you'll be back on track. You know you've got the support on here with our lovely gang. The 13s are within touching distance do you kick that rut up the jacksy MM xx
You’re now going for long walks at the weekend and walking to and from work. That will definitely help your mental health and will show on the scales eventually. Have a great week!
I originally lost 3 stone doing it. If you do it pick say Monday and Thursday good fast days and just have 800 calories. On the other days try not to go mad or it will not be good
Hello gman1961 Hello everyone. I've been avoiding this all week. Thinking I might be the only one struggling. I'd been conscious of what I was eating and walking every lunch time. I lost a pound then last week happened. One bad week personnel wise at work. PMR kicked off once I reduced my meds. Disturbed sleep with worry on both counts. And tried reducing carbs to become a carb rebel and the only balanced diet I was on was a biscuit in eat hand and a flapjack in my stomach! So back to square one gman. Little losses add up. Mindful eating. Small steps. You e done great with a loss. Look back at what you ate and see a trend there. I did. Mine was a self inflicted gain. But tomorrow is another week. Hopefully work will be easier. Hopefully mindset will be better. Here's hoping!
You are definitely not alone 16 carolann,I've been eating rubbish .Chocolates and cakes the usual suspects .Thank you so much ,I hope you're week gets better .
My weight is very much like yours, up and down. I do have an under active thyroid Since I have long covid it makes it worse even to walk at a good pace, due to my shortness of breath.
So I joined Noom weight loss program run by psychologists, so far so good. It really is baby steps, they teach you to understand what choices about food to make and that nothing is really off limits.
It is different to weight watchers or slimming world, this is about teaching us how we think, feel and behave around food, people and social triggers that impact our behaviour. I have only just joined in January and have lost 5 lbs, by looking at food choices, made by me.
You are not alone in this weight journey. Good luck with whatever program you choose.
I'm hoping you've joined the Thyroid UK forum healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk - you'll get great advice and support there, and unless your thyroid condition is optimally managed, losing weight will be very difficult.
I see from your profile that you are pre-diabetic. In a way, that makes it more straightforward in that it's carbohydrates you need to get control of. There's lots of information here healthunlocked.com/weight-l...
You'll find everything you need to join in with the forum by following this link healthunlocked.com/weight-l... to our Pinned Posts. Do have a good look around and join in as much as you can - it definitely pays off
I struggle with it, too, but the more I get into a good pattern, the easier it becomes. As long as we don't sabotage ourselves, we'll be able to make progress
Hello. I'm afraid I've been AWOL for a few reasons. However I got an email notification from Hidden offering to create a free meal plan. Is this for real?
Could have been better but I've just about got the brakes on. Not a good week I realised changes at work unsettled me and I ate anything I could. I have however had a good think. Cleared out rubbish food and will start fresh tomorrow. Good luck this coming week!
