Struggling need some help
Maybe now its getting nicer in the evening or at the weekends go out for a walk if you have a friend take them with you it can pass an hour or so and take your mind of things I've also got 5 stone to loose im on my 5 week so far I've lost 9lb just keep at it be negative for every 1lb you loose good luck
Have you downloaded the NHS 12 week plan and MyFitnessPal? For me planning and determination are the key, plus peppermint tea!!!
I plan and log my food with MyFitnessPal so I know my portion sizes and calorie allowance, then distract myself in the evenings by reading the forum posts and drinking peppermint tea because anything else tastes revolting with it 😉
Hi there Morag1955 It seems that you feel that there is this big mountain to climb, but remember if you just take it one little hill at a time The BIG mountain will not seem that high anymore. I have also started my journey today and perhaps we can keep each other company along the way. I have 3 stone to lose. I am not a drinker, but have a friend who, when she had to lose weight, decided that she would start by taking a smaller glass ( half the bigger glass) and then still fill it up or even having a spritzer. It seems a silly idea, but it worked for her. Perhaps in this way you can work in a glass of wine into your daily calorie intake. I really hope this will help you.
Lets do this and be healthier at the end.

Hello Morag1955 and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, but they are quite busy. If you wish to take part Sunday is the quietest day but you are welcome to join any day. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the 'home' page, or at the very bottom (after all the posts) on a mobile.☺
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺
Best wishes
Anna
Hi, eve nings are worse time for me too, daily battle, I'm on week 5 going on 6 and banned eating at a set time, for me no food after 6pm. I'm a small alcohol drinker, and stopped since Jan, as I too have 5 stone to lose, just out into garden for 2 hours to wake up the garden, and get read, for second timeto grow spinach, cabbage and
leek seeds
Hi Morag1955 - welcome to the forum.
Please don't see it as '5 stone to lose' because that will just overwhelm you before you've even begun. You need to have mini-goals...aim to lose 7lbs then a stone and so forth. If you focus on mini-goals you're distracted in a healthy way and before you know it you will be nearer to your ultimate target!
Next, really try to remember why you need to lose weight, think of all the things you will miss if you don't lose weight. Write little notes to yourself throughout the day to spur you on. Make sure you have plenty of healthy snack alternatives and drink that water! Try to fit in little bits of exercise throughout the day, take the stairs instead of the lift, park further away, do some squats while you're in the rest room. As your fitness increases change your goals to be more challenging. Always keep occupied, boredom has undone so much hard work to many of us on here. Gain a new hobby - some people like knitting as it keeps their fingers busy. It's not exactly the gym but it does stop you snacking. Try to go swimming or fit in some other physical activity that you ENJOY at least once a week to begin with - getting fit can be fun and if you enjoy it you'll more than likely stick with it. As you shed those lbs and become fitter you'll see and feel the results and that should spur you on!
Good luck and don't give up; it's always hard to begin with but it does get easier.

Thank you great help
I also have started today, I need a knee op and my BMI is too high.I need to loose a minimum of 2 stone. So that is my first target ( not the 5 I really need to loose that is too large to think about). I have made a meal plan for the week with tasty meals in the evening to look forward too. Can not wait to see how much I can loose this week.
Sounds good will check in next Monday good luck
sarah545 and Morag1955 have you been over and introduced yourselves at the Monday Weigh-in? It's in the Events section ☺
Try and find something to do with your hands other than lift a wine glass. I embroider, not very rock and roll but it stops my evening temptations Or I go to bed and read. Good luck.
Hi Morag1955, maybe try and change your evening routine. Do you craft? I make photo books with all the family pictures i have taken. I've dug out some wool and a crochet hook. I can't make anything other than large squares but I plan to make blankets as presents.
Maybe soda water with a splash of lime or elderflower cordial in a wine glass. For me it's about all about changing my routine so that I don't fall in to my usual habits.
Good luck
