Hi. I've just signed up here after watching Tom Kerridge's new programme last night. I always have a rush of motivation whilst I'm watching these sorts of programmes, and for about 12 hours after, but now I'm here at home whilst hubby is at work and the children are at school, I'm back to snacking mode! Having said that, I haven't snacked yet, but it's all I can think about.
Also, I seriously need to exercise but being at over 20 stone now and feeling every bone / tendon / muscle in my body aching whenever I even just walk around shops, I'm finding it easier not to bother.
I just need a kick up the backside, but whenever my poor husband tries to help or encourage me, I immediately interpret it as nagging and get cross with him so he just keeps quiet on any discussions regarding diet or exercise.
Heeeeeeeelp!!!! x

I missed that programme and hope to see it on catch-up. I'm glad it had the effect of motivating you and I hope that we'll be able to help you keep that motivation going.
I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link
Don't worry about the exercise that will come later.
Losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise.
I have MS and can't do much although on a good day I walk up an down the stairs 😀
Start now! Look at what you eat and how much....
Look to replace food with healthier options and smaller portions. Drink more water on the side.
That's step 1....
My motivation came from my son. He wanted a leaner, fitter body to look good and he started asking for more proteins and generally better meals. That motivated me to the same.
My other son and OH just followed lol.
So maybe do it to set an example for your children!?
This is the best place to come Foxy. Tons of support and encouragement and no judgements.
If snacking is an issue please think about what you are snacking on. Most snacks are heavy on carbohydrates and that is no good for our body or weight loss. As soon as you have finished, or very soon afterwards, you want more to keep blood sugar levels up. Blood sugar is not all about how much sugar we eat, the body converts carbohydrates into glucose (sugar). We can't have more than about a teaspoon of sugar in out whole blood system at any one time so the body works hard to get it out of the blood - unfortunately it gets transformed into fat and most people can't access the stored fat to use - so it stays there.
If you have to snack a boiled egg or a small piece of cheese are better for you - but the reality is that snacking is a habit that you can learn to do without.
Having said all of that it is for you to decide how you deal with your weight, I can say for certain that keeping in touch with this forum will be really helpful but you really do need to join in to get the benefits.
I recorded the programme last night and intend to watch it later.
Hi welcome. I can understand how you feel but I bet you will feel better once you get started. Set small goals and buy yourself something nice every half stone. I buy a lipstick or a massage. Good luck 🤞
As Anna mentioned simple changes to start with are best as they don’t require too much effort and you should still notice a difference in weight loss.
For example you could swap all refined carbohydrates to whole grain options then make sure you weigh these portions as it’s surprising how easy it is to cook too much of these. Or try to snack on slices of apple which you can dip into a bit of peanut butter or cottage cheese.
You don’t have to exercise to lose weight you just have to eat less (but not to little) calories than you burn in a day. So find out your personal calorie range (start at the top end of this range), do this by using the nhs bmi calculator, your range is displayed on the same page as your bmi score. Then log all your calories (can use free app like MyFitnessPal).
Wishing you lots of luck and welcome to this fabulous forum 😊👍
