Mammoth gain after a relaxed weekend.

Binge eater in recovery here. I had a nice weekend away, I indulged in an Indian, sugary alcoholic drinks, cake and a hangover kebab wrap. Not great choices, but a far cry from the mindless binge eating I used to indulge in. I expected a gain, but not the huge 8lbs increase I'm seeing on the scales.Feeling low, hard done by and almost like I want to punish myself (for my choices which led to this gain) by binging.

Battling myself today to regain control

That does sound a lot. Are you sure your scales were on level ground?

Now, take a deep breath and decide what you're going to have today. I've just looked back at my diary for last week and there's not a single day I ate as I should have done so I'm just planning for today :)

I agree w9th BridgeGirl - decide what you're going to eat today.

It is OK to have a gain, the important thing is that you don't let it derail you. Plus a chunk of that will be water weight as well.

I was away this weekend as well, and had a 3 course meal, a lot of alcohol, full English breakfast and 2 cake things. The scales were not good this morning but I know tomorrow morning it'll be better. I'm going to try and lose as much as I can this week, but if I have a gain when I come to the weigh in that is OK.

You've done so well with weight loss so far, and you've had a weekend off, which is good! But you can keep going.

You sound like you are setting yourself up for failure. And of course that is frustrating and might end in binging.

You were one weekend out with not perfect eating. Who cares?

That are only 2 from 7 days!! if I count correctly that were 5 positive days. What a success and reason to celebrate.

And please don't punish yourself with eating very 'good' the next days.

Just change one thing at a time and try to maintain it.

Example: You try to cut off processed food? Great, focus on that and count every day without. And when this week is only 3 days, it is million times better than how you used to eat before you started your weight loss journey. Then try the next week 4 days without processed food and so on.

There will always be weeks when you eat more of it because life just happens and can't be planned perfectly.

And even with perfect eating your weight might go up and down. That happened for me this month. I ate as I always eat just a little less because I was ill and the scale showed about 3 or 4 lb more the next 2 weight ins.

Don't try to be a deep fryer. Every dietary and exercise changes in and the output is a few minutes later.

Look more on a slow cooker, creating good habits and maintaining them takes time and patience and more time. And like an old fashioned slow cooker on an open fire or charcoal oven, you have to feed your habits to keep the meal cooking.

Every day is new and every day has it's own opportunity to try again. And mark in a calendar or journal every successful day and you will be surprised at the end of the months.

Good luck on your journey. You can do it.

I like the slow cooker idea. I am round. Hard on the outside but warm and comforting when you lift my lid 😂. I try to eat sensibly but it's not easy. Don't beat yourself up.🙋‍♀️ Don't be self destructive 🙋‍♀️ Try instead to eat mindfully. Make good choices. I'm increasingly fed up with the yo-yo cycle and fighting against medicine side effects. I'll get there a bit at a time. And so will you 😊

Please don’t let it derail all your hard work - that isn’t 8lbs of fat you’ve put on, it will mostly be water retention from eating more food and carbs than you normally would do. Just get back on track and the scales will soon be back down to where they were. I know how hard it is recovering from disordered eating and one of the hardest things is trying to enjoy a ‘normal’ treat weekend away and not feel like you’ve ruined everything afterwards. You are doing brilliantly and please focus on that rather than a number on the scales that can be affected by so many different things every single day. You got this x

Glad to hear you had a nice time and relaxed about food, at least while you were away. Firstly, DON’T PANIC and don’t beat yourself up about it. Secondly, don’t forget that if you eat a lot of carby foods you will hang on to a lot more water than normal hence the larger than expected ’gain’, or at least a good part of it. And third and most importantly, draw a line and move on. You had a ball, now back to the nitty gritty of sensible choices, mindful eating and worrying less about the daily changes on the scales.

Hang in there. Be kind to yourself if you can. I know that I used to be a bit of a binge eater and I know other people who are or were too. It's really tough but don't let the blip get you down, if you can help it. We have to just pick ourselves up, dust off, and soldier on. Also, this may seem a bit yucky, but sometimes a huge poop 💩 😳 can ensue a weekend like that, and you end up only having put on 2 or 4 lbs in the end 😀 I have stopped boozing now because I'm perimenopausal and it has helped because I don't feel good after drinking, so I just don't bother. In turn, it makes me crave less junk food, so that's useful. Hope you're OK and that things are smoothing out since you posted.
