Struggle

I have struggled with weight control my whole life. I have had both success and failure. My difficulty is when I am in work and there is food and people do not take no for an answer. I don't think they would do the same thing to someone who struggles with alcohol control. Any suggestions?

Hi letsdothis209 and welcome to our weight loss support community. Sometimes the people we have around us can make it difficult for us to change our lifestyle but nothing is impossible, I would stick to my guns until they get used to the idea:)

This is the link to our pinned posts where you'll find everything we have to offer.

I suggest that after reading the Welcome Newbies post, scroll down and join our weekly weigh in and have a look at our daily diary too. Several other members have the ssame problem as you .

I hope to see you joing in. Good luck:)

You have identified a starting point there: food at work and being tempted and pushed by others. How about taking your own food in, and making sure it's something you look forward to and enjoy?

I worked in a open plan office and continually said no to everything even birthday cake they eventually got the message when I did not eat any of it someone else on my team was always happy to take it. If that would not happen at your place of work try throwing it strait in the bin anyone questions this just tell them you did not ask for it and did not want it they will soon get the message.

I started my eating plan last January and in 50 weeks I lost 4st 4lb. This was my choice no one told me to do it and I feel great. Good luck and stick to your plan it is great when you get to target only downside is you have to buy new clothes. Remember you are doing this for you and anyone who is trying to sabotage your plan is not a friend.

Good work, Big67!! Are you looking to re-join the forum or are you dropping in to offer support? You're very welcome, either way :)

I started to get daily emails just before Christmas after a very long time of non but it was just this one person's comment rang true with me and people sometimes don't realise how damaging it can be to keep offering food to people on eating plans it is always just one wont hurt. I am sorry if it came across as blunt but with some people they only get the message no mean no means no through drastic action. I have found I work better with a group support that I meet up with weekly. I found it too time consuming to write all my daily food intake and calories. Everyone is different I will try to block these emails from this site in future.

No, you didn't sound blunt, you had some useful advice. People believe what you do, not what you say.

If you go to your profile, you can elect what emails you want - or don't want. I found the daily ones irritating so I just opt for ones from posts I'm following.

Good luck, and it's good to hear you're getting the support you need :)

I like your reply, this is so true! I can't resist (reject) birthday cakes or celebration foods..Now I know how to!

How about:

“Thanks for the offer, but I’m currently focusing on maintaining a healthy diet. I appreciate it though!”

“I’m trying to be mindful of my food choices right now, but I’m happy to enjoy a good chat with you while you have your delicious treats!”

“I’m working on my fitness goals, so I’ll pass on the cake. But thanks for thinking of me!”

And if they keep pushing:

“No thanks. I’m grateful for the offer, but I’m sticking to my plan. Your understanding and support means a lot to me..”
