Binging eating disorder after losing weight
That's because the Cambridge diet is a starvation diet which is impossible to sustain. To understand weight gain you need to understand that it is governed by insulin and insulin is the hormone that regulates your blood sugar. It does this by telling your body to burn as much as it can and store the excess. Blood sugar is converted into glycogen and stored in the muscles and liver for quick access but when those stores are full the liver converts the excess into triglycerides which are the building blocks of body fat. Fats however have very little effect on insulin levels therefore you do not tend to store them. Hence the way to stop weight gain is to get your calories from fats, not carbohydrates which are the source of blood sugar so cut out sugary and starchy foods especially foods made with white flour which tend to have the highest GI (i.e. they cause the biggest rise in insulin). Also blood sugar tends increase the release of the hunger hormone and hold back the release of the satiety hormone which result in the binging.
Hence the success of the LCHF diet.
Good morning, Yaz121, and welcome to the forum
It's good that you have lost so much weight and now you'll need a new approach to maintain a healthy weight. As Eryl says, the Cambridge diet is very low calorie and, as I understand it, is a meal replacement plan. You will need to learn at your own pace how to introduce real food and build your diet around those things that are least likely to make you store fat - i.e. green, above ground veg, protein of your choice and natural, healthy fats such as olive oil and butter for cooking, full fat dairy products, nuts and seed.
This may help: if you use this guide as a basis for your shopping list, you could get into the habit of enjoying filling meals, so your bingeing reduces phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

Good morning Yaz121 and welcome to our lovely forum. Firstly let me say well done on losing 9 stone that is a huge achievement and you must be extremely proud of that. Maintaining our loses is a difficult process and has to be worked on just as much as when we are trying to lose it. We have a monthly thread dedicated to maintaining, I would suggest you pop across and get chatting to the members there. With regard to your cycle of binge eating and restricting, have you sought out medical assistance for this? Assistance to help you balance things out could be very beneficial.
I'm the mean time why not join our weekly Weigh In and Daily Diaries, you will get lots of support on any of our pinned posts, here's a link to get you there quickly healthunlocked.com/weight-l...

Hi Yaz121,
Did you have a diet coach and/or DR support while on the diet? They should still be offering some support now? If not, ask for an appointment. You have done amazingly well to shift such an amount of weight and need their support to get through this next chapter of your weight loss journey. I am a maintainer and can say that it can be hard to get the balance right after losing as it is a very different result you are wanting. For me, I lost through the slimming world programme so I return there for support and to make sure I am still on track weight wise. They also have different maintainer paths dependent on how much you lost as we all have different metabolic rates and lose weight differently. Sometimes it is a case of tweaking things to work it out. I am saying this as hopefully your diet coach/Dr can advise you best as to how to maintain without feeling that you are on a binging see-saw. Let us know how you get on.
Well done on your tremendous weight loss. Have you ever looked at slimpod? Google it. It is very different but could help break a vicious cycle and reset your relationship with food.
