Hi goose. I wouldn't consider myself to be a binge eater but I did find myself in a position where I would obsess about food all evening and was eating far too much.

I have gradually weaned myself off the snacking but it has taken time (about 3 months).

Ok so we all know what we should and shouldn't be eating and how much but it isn't that simple and you need to find your way through this in your own way.

Can you cut down the sizes of the binges? Eat half the amount of ice cream and pizza, replace the other half a tub of ice cream with tinned fruit in juice? Buy sorbet instead? Only you know how your mind works so you need to find ways through this that suits you but you may need to take your time and wean yourself off, like I did.

This is what I did - replaced the usual snacks with low cal ones, tinned fruit, weight watchers mini rolls, low cal yoghurts, 100 cals of chocolate and sugar free jellies. I still had my 3 snacks a night but tried to limit the calorie intake to 150 cals in total. Yes I know these foods may not be great nutritionally but it is about breaking habits. Once you have got used to the snacks try and space them out more and eat less of them. Space it out by time - so you have one snack at 7pm and the other at 9pm (and yes you will be watching the clock all the time :( ). I also worked on not having something sweet straight after a main meal.

Generally now, I have one sweet thing in the evening after dinner, usually it is fruit with a bit of low fat squirty cream. I do still have chocolate but only a small Dairy milk bar at 105 cals.

Finally, I do give myself one evening off a week and on that night I will eat something I have been craving during the week which is often a decent size bar of chocolate. I am trying to reduce this now too.

I hope some of this helps, sorry for the long post.

Good luck, you can crack this :)

Excellent advice sueper, this is what I'm working on now. I need that little treat in the evening at the moment even though it isn't a healthy treat

My only suggestion is not to have the food in the cupboard. If I have to fetch it from the shop I am less likely to accidentally eat it (what my husband and I call binge eating)

Agreed. And don't shop on an empty stomach. And take a list and stick to it.

If you get cravings you may at least get some exercise fetching it from the shop. It doesn't always work. As I don't have a car I have to plan shopping carefully and it's amazing what slips into the trolley while I'm not looking :O

Pizza, 1 wheat wrap, fresh tomato and low cal cheese like edam. Use the wrap as the base sprinkle with you favourite herbs. Broil til the cheese is melted. Delicious and way less calories.

Not what you're looking for?
