Hi everyone I’m back for a second time to try and really loose weight. Just after Christmas my doctor told me I was at risk of diabetes and my son got really upset about me not looking after myself. Despite this I struggled with motivation and so my son made me signup with a personal trainer and join the gym for the first time in my life. The trainer insists I walk for at least 30 minutes every day and go to the gym three times a week. I’ve also been following the diabetes UK weekly diet plan which I am beginning to enjoy. The trainer told me to use Cronometer which is fiddly but has stopped me having sneaky snacks. The personal trainer is so expensive I’ve been motivated to stick to her routine so I don’t have to pay out for longer than necessary! I still hate it but it is getting easier!

Hi Dosgatos and welcome back to our lovely forum. Well done for signing up with a trainer, as you say no one wants to waste money so it's great motivation to keep at it. I'm glad to hear you are getting on with the diabetes UK diet plan too. I haven't heard of Cronometer, I use myfitnesspal. They may be fiddly but they really do help in my opinion.

Although it's only a year since you were last here, a few things have changed to do take a look at the pinned posts, here's the link to them.

In this list you'll see "Welcome Newbies" that helps you navigate your way around, and some FAQs. You'll also see our popular Weigh In, why don't you pop across to that one today and start chatting with other sunday weighers.

I would also suggest you join in on the Daily Diary where members tell each other about what plan they're following and what their menu for the day is. This is where you can share some great ideas and recipes, and it can help you to work out what sort of plan is best for you.

You'll see the other regular threads there too and feel free to join in any of those that take your fancy. The more you participate the more you will get out of the forum. We are a very sociable bunch 😁

If you get stuck with finding your way around, just give us a shout.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing you around xx

Welcome back, Dosgatos :) It sounds as though you have good support behind you and that's a huge help.

I expect you've been told that diabetes is a disorder of carbohydrate metabolism, so that's where you need to concentrate in terms of what to eat and what not to. It's not just about losing weight, though that will come along the way, by making the right choices.

There's a good information sheet here from a GP who has had great results with his patients in reversing their diabetes. It should work alongside your weekly meal plan dietdoctor.com/wp-content/u... It's good to hear you're enjoying it. Drop in to the Daily Diary and share your plans there, see what others are eating and have a chat about your choices :)

Xmas was a killer for me too so I fully understand. I don’t like cold weather outdoors either but my walking has gone off the scale since it’s warmer so hope this is your motivation too . I get the point about the personal trainer but maybe now you have the hints and tips you could either cut down , cut out now cost of living is hitting scary highs . If you are paying for a complex app then the tip about MyFitnessPal is great . I use the free simple version to scan barcodes and check basic macros and have a step counter on my phone but after a while I didn’t use MFP every day as it becomes a bit of a controller and can put you off .

Hi Dosgatos and welcome back !!! Been at my diet and exercise since 2018, and in 2020 I sold my home got a divorcce of woman of 45yrs of marriage. Loosing weight and staying on weight control is very hard, but as everyone says we have to keep at it for a better life and better health!!!Thats what I keeep telling my self, my son that is 50 is heavier than I so I got him there but I am 65 yrs old, diaabetes, fatty liver, NASH, TRY LIMITING YOUR CARBS , that is your best answer. few carbs , no pop, no liquor , no bread, or potatos, that really helps.

I agree. I’m not diabetic and so don’t have to follow a plan but I was at the top of the pre diabetic range. The good news is that my blood sugar is now back in the normal range having followed the family diet from diabetics Uk. The message from my GP said “what ever you are doing is working keep it up “

Just to share my good news. My diabetes risk has gone down from high to normal. This has given me the motivation I need to stick to the new regime. I am getting up at six every day and walking to the furthest shops with a trolley and buying 2 days worth of food and going to the gym 3 times a week. I have struggled for years but hopefully this time I will be able to continue- well at least until it rains !
