Nobody really knows what causes chronic high blood pressure, although it's certainly associated with Metabolic Syndrome.

If you have a sudden increase in blood pressure, you'd best see your doctor immediately.

My meds have been increased yet again. But I don't want this. I need to loose weight to combat it.

I agree with TheAwfulToad, please make sure you are getting medical check ups, none of us are qualified to answer this

Losing weight is likely to help reduce hypertension in the long term. It certain has helped mine but that works over months or years. As the others have said if you have had a sudden increase in blood pressure then you need to consult a doctor.

Weight loss helps ,I've been on on medication for years.

Stress doesn't help either.

Hope it gets sorted out.

Have a look at British Heart Foundation website too, they have good information on blood pressure

I've heard that if your general diet is right (low carb) that magnesium will bring blood pressure down, but it is a slow process. I've been low carb for 2-3 years and taking magnesium supplements, but the difference in my blood pressure is still only small.

Blood pressure low today - 137/69. Blood sugar 18.8. Totally confused now.

Is it possible that as Dr Jason Fung says, I am shedding sugar from my cells? Because my diet is low carb!

Yod don't shed sugar from your cells, the cells consume it. Normal fasting blood sugar should be around 5 to 6, and the ammount of carbohydrate you need can be anything from 20g to a little over 100g.
