High blood pressure

Hi I'm new here, have put on some weight over the last year, have been blaming the menopause for my bad eating choices and decided I needed to do something about it so went to join a gym but have discovered my blood pressure was so high they refused to allow me to join until I had seen my doctor, he has put me on medication but also won't allow me to join until it gets under control . So am trying to eat healthily in the meantime to help bring the pressure down and obviously lose weight and would hope to come off the medication at some point also. So any tips, encouragement gladly received!

Dear leisure lady

There is no doubt reducing weight reduces blood pressure,

I have been able to reduce my blood pressure medication since losing weight after losing the first 6 kg

I still take medication though I’ve now lost 15 kg so it’s important to monitor your blood pressure during your diet

Best wishes for successful weight loss . Health is the greatest motivator

Hi

I've not joined a gym but I did have high blood pressure last year. I walked, just a bit each day and built up to a good walk after work each evening . It's getting harder to fit that in now the days are shorter. I also downloaded a mindfulness/relaxation app which I think helped me get my blood pressure under control. I used it every day at first and now use it maybe once or twice a week (depending on how things are a work mostly - stressy job!). I had a bp check last week and it's still fine.

good luck

i was diagnosed with high bp last dec and put on medication. i started a low carb diet and joined the gym and after losing 2stone im now off the medication and my bp is normal again.

Losing weight & a healthy lifestyle has definately helped me control my bp.!
