Personally I'd check what food items containing natural sugars went into the smoothie. If the fruits are largely berries i don't see the problem. If it's more sugary fruits like mango, that could be counter-productive.

My go-to breakfast is greek yoghurt with muesli/granola and double cream (all items <5g/100g sugar) but that might be just me. 😄

Welcome back, gizmo33 :)

It really depends what you put in your smoothie, but if it's full of fruit, I'd say ditch the smoothies and go for eggs, meat, fish, veg, full fat natural yoghurt, or just skip breakfast altogether.

Have a look at these (I'm assuming it's type 2 diabetes you have and apologies if you've already been given these before) :

This is the first of 7, all well worth watching.

Hi gizmo33! I'm not sure how you are with navigating around these forums.. people quite often find it tricky until they're used to it. Just thought I would put a link here to your post a wee while ago. There were some great links in some replies, and there will be useful breakfast info in there too.

I hope you're getting on ok with the low carb approach. Don't hesitate to drop in to the LCHF forum too!

If I am only drinking then psychologically I feel I haven’t had breakfast (despite taking in the calories with a smoothie) and may well tend to pick to lunch. I prefer yoghurt with chia seeds or oats/bran mix or scrambled eggs and Always sitting down to eat. This makes me realise I had breakfast and not just a drink.

I agree ELLS76 . . . A smoothie with about 400-500 calories wouldn’t make me feel psychologically satisfied the way a meal of a similar size would 😊

However, they do have their place for some, if they’re really busy for example, my daughter used them when she worked in a busy pub and didn’t get her proper breaks ☹️

Hello gizmo33. My "smoothie" recipe would be like:

- 1 glass almond milk

- 175g greek style yogurt

- (lots of) berries

- 1/2 tablespoon honey

I use this recipe for breakfast/snack or even for dinner on days I'm feeling too lazy to cook. What do you guys think about the ingredients?

Drinking your calories is an easy way to get a lot of them without noticing. Smoothies are one of the ways they recommend GAINING weight, if you are too thin and have trouble with loss of appetite.

personally I think most smoothies are basically a sweet drink unless you make them yourself and really think about what you put in them. I like eggs for breakfast, say scrambled or a cheese omelette. You could have some vegetable or even a bit of meat or fish with them.
