An interesting documentary looking at the connection between diet; mental health, mood, behaviour and longevity of brain faculties.

Hi MintTeaMascacra,

I watched the documentary and came away feeling good about actually having a diet rich in most of the items they mentioned bar fish ! Go me. But, I had a childhood that was less so and my foundation wasn't hugely sugary but it had more fat as was the typical diet back then.

Funnily enough, I supplement my daughter who is on the ASD spectrum with omega 3-6-9 as there was a link with that helping with distress and also, b vitamins which I always took as being for the brain. The video cemented this belief.

Very interesting although the animal experiments I did not enjoy, I was happier to see the tests on flies! Lol

What did you think of it?

Hiya 🐝 Bee 😊

Sorry for not responding sooner.

I came away wanting to eat more oily fish too. I just bought some tuna steaks from my local fishmongers and 'wow, they're expensive!'

Yeah, go you! :) - it's never too late.

Yeah, I think there's sound evidence within the medical world that b vitamins help with brain functions - which is nice because a lot of these natural alternatives don't get funding for research.

I find some of the studies done on animals really interesting - I'm not sure I agree with some of the tests done on them though.

I would have liked to of seen the rat being reared on cocaine and sugar; to have also been given a choice and access to fresh water and nutritious food because it could have been choosing the sugar water as a respite from the cocaine. It also might have gone towards nutrition because of a deficiency like they were demonstrating in the fly experiment.

I actually don't need someone to rear a rat on cocaine to tell me sugar is addictive, so now you mention it, that particular experiment did make me feel uncomfortable!

Overall, I found it interesting and informative.. I didn't like the weird interludes/clips they added throughout it though 🀨

Yes, I agree interesting and informative but, the ad's were odd and the experiments on rats strange too. The cocaine one with either cocaine or sugar water, I agree what if it had the choice of no stimulant at all and just plain water.

I know that the food in pregnancy has some evidence as My youngest daughter, after I started eating olives in pregnancy, is the only child that likes olives and is also wheat and dairy intolerant. Although there will be some evidence that lower income families will tend to eat more junk food and possibly already have behaviour issues in the family that showed up with such a diet.

Thankyou for posting it here :)

Yeah, there's usually cracks in experiments but without been able to talk to the people running the experiments it's impossible to know how well they ran them and how well they tried to isolate the effects of the food itself from the other factors.

Food is definitely not a 'fix all' but it does play a role in the solution.

You're welcome :)

Thanks for sharing!

I've watched his Ted talk and a couple of his interviews before.

Will give this one a watch this evening, hopefully. Thanks :)

It was very similar to the other interviews he does but it was a good watch and a well needed reminder!

Thanks for sharing.
