I've been and down with my weight all my life, I've had amazing weight loss and massive weight gains since I was a teenager. I've been quite content on my current weight loss plan, after decades of life battling the bulge I'm older and wiser and have been happily, sensibly and successfully eating and exercising for the last 6 weeks and losing an average of 2lbs a week. I made the mistake of looking at an old weight loss book today and have disheartened myself by reminding myself that for the last few years I've lost and gained the same few stone. I'm struggling to refocus myself right now. I can't change my past and worry I'll never break the cycle.
I think it's right what they say, you've got to find something you're happy (and not hungry) with that you can stick to forever. I've been low carb for over a year now and love it, so I'm optimistically hoping that it's going to turn out to be the way I eat forever now and put an end to the yo-yo.
Easier said than done, I know, but hang on in there and stick around, you will find the right balance for you x
Throw the book away! Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Look forwards, not back. And stick with us, as Lytham says, and maybe change your name to something more positive and forward looking?

Book is in the bin! Lol my name is a tribute to one of my favourite songs ever, its not attributed to my weight but to me being a unique individual which I find incredibly positive 😄
I agree, it's a great name! There are plenty of positive emotions that aren't happiness. Your name speaks of confidence and resolve, verging on stubbornness. I like that!

Take the book out of the bin, or at least clasp it's lessons to your breast. Two quotes spring to mind "it's the definition of insanity to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result" and "those who forget history are doomed to repeat it"
If you are doing the same thing you have done before, you will have the same results. The mechanisms that made you gain weight again will happen again. And maybe worse, as you age. If the only thing that has changed is your resolve - well, we are all human, we can't be strong all the time.
I've only yoyo'd once - I put on 10kg in my 50s, lost it and then gained it again in with a few more kgs. When I tried to address my weight again last year, I remembered the helplessness as I watched the weight creep back up. So I realised that I needed a plan to address that happening again.
Has it worked? I can't say as I am still approaching my final weight. What I do know is the approach I took (as others have suggested too), low carb, high fat (and for me, intermittent fasting) has resulted in fairly pain free weight loss, and I believe I can keep eating this way, so I don't expect to fail. If I mostly keep away from carbs, I think I will keep the weight off. And I have fasting incase carb creep leads to weight creep.
I probably would have lost the weight with calorie counting, but I know I couldn't keep doing that all my life. I want to do other things than weigh food.
I was in your exact situation for quite some time. The loosing and then the inevitable gaining, the guilt, etc.
What changed the game for me completely was reading the insightful book "The Obesity Code" by dr. Jason Fung. He explains in a very lucid way the available science behind the weight gain (and loss) mechanisms of the body. The main thing I learned from this book is that much of the official advice that is given on the internet and in diet books (even by gouvernment agencies like the NHS) is simply incorrect or at best incomplete.
I want to point out right away that I have no personal interest whatsoever in recommending the book. I'm not some agent of the author trying to push copies via forums.
I've been applying the principles that are detailed in the book now for some months, and I find it actually quite easy to do. As a result, I've lost 5 kilos already and I'm feeling better than ever. The thing is, it's not really a "diet", just a new way of eating that I can enjoy and continue indefinitely. If you'd like to know more, I'd be happy to explain in more detail.

Burn the book , just get rid of it . You are not the same person as you was a few years ago ... a few months ago etc. I always journal as I enjoy it ... however I do burn them after a while . I feel they hold onto energy of the past . Move forward , fresh and with new focus .
