"no pain no loss" is probably not a good place to start. In fact if it all feels like purgatory, you're almost certainly doing it wrong.
If you're determined to go with the pain approach, consider that you need to keep it up for the rest of your life - otherwise the weight will go back on.
The good news is that losing weight and keeping it off is pretty painless. It requires some serious mental adjustments during the first few weeks (in particular, it requires accepting that a lot of the things we've been told about healthy eating simply aren't true) but after that it's plain sailing.

Hi rubyvirk, I have to agree with TheAwfulToad that "no pain no loss" is not a good place to start. It is true as a metaphor - there is mental pain in losing weight because you are essentially cutting out the bad foods that you love and those foods make you feel good. Also starting to exercise when you normally don't also can feel painful - so in those terms I suppose there is pain you have to overcome, but again I think that most of it is mental. If you are feeling physical pain, then simply stop and look at what you are doing. I have always found that my body is right - if it's hurting then I need to stop.
In terms of eating, my recommendation would simply be to do your research. There are lots of ways of eating that will help you to lose weight and many people will advocate what has worked for them...but they aren't you. Listen to the advice given, try them and, if they don't work, try something else until you find what works for you. However, if you find someone advocating the eat anything and do nothing diet, I'd give that one a miss.
I hope your journey goes well and there will always be someone one here on hand to help. Don't think that you are alone.
