Hi and welcome, you have found a wonderful place for inspiration and support. One of our TeamAdmin will welcome you officially in the morning as I guess they are all tucked up in bed now but in the meantime have a read of the Newbies post: healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

You sound like you are in the same place as I found myself 2 years ago having turned sixty a month before, the heaviest I had ever been and here I am 2 years later, 8 stone lighter and today completed week 7 of Couch to 5K running for 25 minutes but most importantly haven't been hungry or felt like I was missing out.

Join in with one of the weigh-ins, choose the day best for you, and come back every week (on the same day) and record your losses (or gains...we all have blips) We are a mutual support group so do join in.

Wishing you all the best with your journey to a healthier you and I look forward to seeing you around the site.

Hi and welcome, biscuit19

I'm also in the over 60's club and very happy about it. I think I worried more about turning 30

It's not impossible to lose weight as we get older, but for some of us, it helps to change the method. Have a look at these for ideas, they helped me lose over 7st healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... phcuk.org/wp-content/upload... and fatismyfriend.co.uk/

All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.

Wishing you all the best

I'm sorry, we appear to have a site glitch that's preventing us from posting more than one link at a time, so here's the first healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Hi Biscuit19 - here's some inspiration for you - I have been overweight most of my life, except for the short intervals when I lost it all before putting it back on and more besides. I joined here as a last ditch effort already in my 60s because of a need to lose weight for health issues. Understanding what had happened to my body over time was a revelation to me, and that came from watching a youtube video recommended by someone "The skinny on obesity episode 3". The rest of Dr Robert Lustig's series is brilliant too. Although I've never been one to eat junk food, I was trying to keep weight off by eating baked potatoes, baked beans, dry toast, bagels - anything low fat or lite. Ditching most of the carbs (sugar, flour, rice, potatoes, pasta, oats) and starting to include fats again, butter, cream, cheese, chicken skin left on - this was all very very strange to me - but it has worked! I've not only lost weight, but hunger pangs and cravings for sugar have gone too. So now mid 60s I'm feeling fitter and healthier than ever. I'm even exercising now which I wasn't doing before or even during the time when I was losing the weight.

A further tip - when I reached 61 I decided that sounded quite a good age to be, so I stayed there. Over the following few years I got so used to saying it that I began to believe myself that wasn't aging! It will come as a shock to me if I ever find out my real age :)

Good luck!

P.S. be GLAD to reach 60, my mum was only here for her girls till she was 53. You've already got the better alternative :)

Hi biscuit19 . It is possible to lose weight at our age. I'm 61 and have been overweight all my life. In the last year I've lost over five stone. I still have another 8 stone or so to go to get to my goal.

One of the strengths of this website is you can get advice from lots of different people, who do not all agree with each other. Can be confusing at times, but I think it just proves there is no single 'right' way to lose weight.

Regardless of method you chose to lose, in terms of this website you might consider stating with the weekly weigh in, to have a record of your losses (and gains - I'm a serial 'blipper' down for three weeks, up for one, and then down again for three or four). Lots of people also find the daily diary very helpful - helps you plan your meals in advance (which really helps me) and also full of other people's meals which gives me inspiration.

I miss swimming too. Despite having to wear a swim suit (so looking as well as feeling incredibly fat), I love being in the pool and being weightless while I go up and down the lane. Hopefully things will be changing soon.

Your new life is waiting for you - now it's up to you to start. Good luck.

thank you so much, i take my girls swimming three times a week then shop for healthy stuff for the next couple of days and that has just gone out the window with cornovirus, but hopefully back on track soon. have done ww and sw but am now going back to good old calorie counting . will try to find the daily diary it seems like a good idea. many thanks

Hi there biscuit19. I know that feeling about turning 60! I'll be 62 next week. Like you, I need to lose some weight and it's not easy as you get older. I managed to lose 1.3lbs in my first week which surprised me. I started by cutting out all my rubbish and also cut down my dairy intake. I tend to stuff my face in the evenings with full fat cheese and biscuits. I do a brisk walk using the active 10 app when I can. I think patience is the key here and dont get despondent. Baby steps 😀 x

hello very nice to meet you, i am trying to cut out snacks at night, cheese and crackers is my downfall, husband always sits with a biscuit tin so have to ignore that. work two 7.5 hour shifts at the weekend for the nhs so walk a lot then, daughter has just moved out and took her two little dogs with her so miss walking them, and first time in 32 years its just me and hubby at home. i am not a big loser 2 lbs a week will be fine for me. x

That sounds like a good plan, 2lbs a week. Maybe you could get your own dog? Good luck x
