Diet Day 3

Commencing day 3 of my attempt at return to my 'old routine': breakfast 236 calories and shortly heading out for another 3 ml brisk walk...

All good so far and I intend to do my first weign-in on Saturday as that is the day I always used for reference before; I'm vegetarian - well, pescatarian actually since I still eat fish! - and eat a salad for dinner every weekday with a piece of quorn or fish, on Saturdays I allow myself the luxury of some oven chips for dinner and the only day I eat potatoes is Sunday, ... hence the Sat. morning weign-in slot!

Still feeling positive about it all so far but ... still need to return to my regular meditation routine as well ... one thing at a time, eh?

Just wondering whether you are eating enough? Have you checked the NHS BMI Calculator for your calorie range, if you are counting calories?

I know that I find it easier to stick to a plan if I eat a bit more food earlier on the day, as it seems to keep me going and stop me snacking. But we are all different.

You could share your Meal Plan on the Daily Diary for support.

I intend to share exactly what I'm eating on a daily basis ... when I get my head around all the posting sites in HeathUnlocked!

I use MyFitnessPal to track my daily food intake and it posts a warning if I go below the recommended calorie intake. Mind you, I haven't 'checked in' my weight for this current re-start programme so, perhaps I'll know more on Saturday morning.

As you indicate, I also prefer a structured approach as I'm method-inclined psychologically, I have breakfast, a VERY light lunch ( which I often skip!) then a decent dinner and finally a light-ish supper.

When I couple this with a brisk walk every day, I usually tend to lose weight, however, as I get older I know my metabolism is not what it used to be so I'm aware of what you're saying and I thank you for the advice.

In future I'll post my meals in the Diary and you'll be able to see exactly what I'm consuming!

Thanks again!

Don't forget that MFP gives a generic calorie allowance - not a specific one based on your current weight and height. And I think the warning is if you go below 1,000 calories - which would definitely mean you were not eating enough. You need to make sure you have the correct figure, and then you can input this into MFP so it knows what your correct target is.

Just some thoughts to make sure this time your plan is a successful one.

Thanks again and don't worry ... I definitely do not dip below 1000 calories per day! It may happen once in a blue moon when circumstances affect my eating plan but it's a very rare occurrence.

I must check out the NHS/BMI calculator again but I do know that I am certainly in the overweight category. :-)

Having arrived at this Forum, not eating enough, and being given lots of help, support and encouragement to increase my calories, I found that, despite my age, and not being tall, the number of calories I could eat and still lose weight was way over the MFP figure. Definitely worth checking out your allowance on the NHS BMI Calculator - the suggested calorie range really does work.

Will do, MissisB - sounds like good advice! The MFP calorie allowance I try to stick to but I'm probably always slightly above it anyway since I don't weigh portions precisely and don't count the skimmed milk in my tea/coffee or scraping of Flora Light on my Ryvita crackers ... nevertheless, when I weigh-in on Saturday morning I must check my NHS BMI Calculator allowance. I also need to re-gauge my height because at my age I've probably shrunk a bit! Thanks for all the helpful tips and advice - it's much appreciated!
