The trick to starting....is just to start! Eat what you like today but weigh and record it and see how many calories you’ve consumed. Just start like this and then take tomorrow as it comes...start shaving a few calories off by eating same food initially but slightly less x

The start is one of the biggest steps. I remember going through my cupboard removing high sugar and high carb foods and disposing of them. If you don't have it, you can't eat it. Then planning what I was going to eat. The 'Daily Diary' thread is excellent for that.

Hi and welcome, Nova1966 :)

First and foremost, I would suggest you stop thinking in terms of a diet, which suggests a start and stop date and could lead to yoyo dieting. Far better to start a healthy and sustainable lifestyle and keep it simple.

Base your meals on fresh, natural foods, meat, fish, eggs, full fat dairy, vegetables, nuts, seeds and healthy fats, all cooked by your own fair hand. Avoid processed foods, especially vegetable oils, low fat spreads, low fat/fat free dairy and products marketed as 'healthy', such as breakfast/cereal bars. These simple guidelines will get you on the right road to improved health and weight loss.

All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.

Wishing you all the best :)

Hi Nova, well done for posting, you will get lots of support and good advice on this forum. I am still struggling with my relationship with food at the moment. Am just trying to focus on one day at a time. You can’t change what’s gone, just learn from it and move forward. The hardest thing is starting but you are already doing that, well done.😊

Hello Nova1966 (Nova is my granddaughter’s name so I felt compelled to reply!)

Well done for coming on this site - over the year I’ve been on, it’s motivated and inspired and informed me soooo much. Plus I feel like I’ve made friends ☺️

Have a look at the Daily Diary as lots of us post our meal plans there and you pick up so many ideas.

If I had to recommend one thing I’d say lchf, low carb, high fat. It doesn’t suit everyone, but has been hugely beneficial for lots of us.

All the best 🙋🏽‍♀️
