Hi, this time 12 weeks ago I said that I was going to get healthy again. After a doctors appointment and blood test I found out that I had an under active Thyriod. I was put on medication and told that they would just check my levels my levels. Ok this is where my drama start, I was thinking great new start not more feeling like rubbish. Ok 12 weeks down the long not feeling so good. More blood test have shown that I am anaemic, great more tablets to take. I keep reading post and different articles that you can't lose weight when you have an under active thyroid and anomic. 7 years ago I lost 4 stones and have been very active young mum, now I am 3 stone over weight and my body doesn't want to more. Can anyone help or suggestion are all welcome. I am starting the 12 week plan tomorrow morning and hoping for the best.

Hiya, dont worry, im sure you will still lose weight, although perhaps with your thyroid problems it might happen more slowly. The 12 week plan is very good. Can you ask your GP or nurse about it? Im pretty sure they will encourage you, and it might help your confidence in your ability to lose weight.

First place to look is at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread.😊 there is lots of info here, and links to the nhs12 week plan and also for checking your BMR and target calories 😊 it's important to eat enough so you don't get hungry or feel deprived 😊 With thyroid issues weight loss will be slow I'm afraid, but not impossible 😊( I've lost almost three stone at a rate of 1/2 - 1lb a week)

If you feel confident then join us for the Monday Group weigh-in. If you follow Lowcal and Moreless (our very approachable site Admins), you'll be notified when they post the threads. The latest weigh-in thread can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page. 😊

Hi. I have underactive thyroid and have suffered with anaemia when first diagnosed. Weight loss is possible, I've lost 2 stone in 10 months - only really trying with the last stone since July.

The only thing I'd point out is that my weight loss does bounce around a bit and some weeks I gain even though kept within my calorie allowance. I weigh daily so I don't get a surprise on Monday weighin, and often will be up to 2lbs lighter on some days. The important thing for me is looking at the overall trend and not packing it all in if there is a hiccup.

Good luck, once your meds are sorted you should feel better and the weight will start to home off if you follow a healthy plan. On this site I know there are a lot of people with hypothyroidism so you're in good company.

Yes, good point! My weight also varies quite a lot, but as PashaW says, if you stick to plan the weight will shift 😊

I also have thyroid problems but once your on correct medication every things should be fine and you will lose weight

Once on medication for under active thyroid, the thyroid function is then normal, even though it is with help. I can't comment on the anaemia though.

I could also say that I have problems with the weight issue as I also have under active thyroid and a slow metabolism due to PCOS, but as both are treated my doctors look at me as though I making excuses because the medication is making the body react normally.

Yes it is hard, specially if you like your food as I do. Try low fat and try to cut out as many 'added' sugars, ie the stuff you put into tea! Also with the 'lower metabolism' bit due to thyroid function, exercise is excellent, even if it is only 3 x 10 minute walks a day after eating, (usually eat, wait 10 minutes and then go for a walk). This also helps keep cholesterol at a good level.
