Suggestions please

Hi. I’m 33 and overweight. I’ve nearly completed the couch to 5k and I feel like I need to be doing something else to help with the weight loss and toning up as this just doesn’t seem to be doing much, especially for getting rid of my belly. I am slowly working on my diet as well. I’ve lost 2.5st previously but through slimming world and I now weigh more than I did before so I need to do something more sustainable and more of a lifestyle change so any suggestions would be great thank you :)

Hello and welcome, mrscoops :)

Congratulations on the C25k. Has it given you the bug for running? With regard to exercise, it has huge benefits in itself but it isn't a huge factor in weight loss. I hope you can find some exercise/activity that you enjoy as you're more likely to stick to it.

You've found, as many of us have, that dieting doesn't work in the long term. If you're looking for a lifestyle change, I'd suggest going for fresh food, home cooked, plenty of veg, especially leafy, above ground veg, eggs, full fat dairy, fish and meat or other protein of your choice. Aim to get all your food into your meals and avoid eating between meals. Not very complicated :) There's a summary here you could print out phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

The forum is a great place for information and support. You'll find all our activities, plus a Welcome message, in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... I recommend joining a weekly weigh in (maybe weigh in the morning and join the Saturday Superstars) and use the Daily Diary where members share their meal plans: that should give you some ideas.

Give yourself a few minutes a day to come here, read posts, ask questions, chat and encourage others - it will pay off for you :)

👏🏼 on the couch to 5k, I am currently in week 3. This is the second time I am following the program the last time I lost 3 stone and managed to run a half marathon but that was 3 years ago. I think the key to loosing weight is diet but it should be done very slowly, I firstly focus on reducing the obvious things I shouldn’t have like chocolate and crisps etc. I don’t fuss over my meals and enjoy my food alongside the running. I then slowly introduce healthier meals one meal at a time changing chips for rice and sausage for fish for example. If it’s a birthday and there’s cake I have some and then run on the same evening so I don’t feel bad. Every day is a new day and don’t let the previous day dictate how you eat or exercise the next.

Keep it simple.!.and keep up the running 🏃‍♀️

Some good advice there, Chocoholicccccc. Welcome to the weight loss forum 🙂

As I said to mrscoops, you'll find plenty of support and information here so make your way to Pinned Posts for all the activities on offer and join in as much as possible. The Saturday weigh in is underway and they will give you a warm welcome.

Hi there. I’ve been using the app ‘myfitness pal’ to log my calories. When you put in your current weight and what you would like to be it works out the calories you need to try and stick to, it also logs your macros so you can monitor that you’re not eating too many carbs etc. For exercise I’ve got the 7M workout app and I’ve joined the yoga collective. For free I managed to download Kathy smiths 2 week workout for over 40s. I’ve managed to lose 3.5kg in three weeks. Oh I also signed up with the NHS WeightLoss which has an app and is for 12 weeks, which I use to record what I do each day and weekly weigh in. Hope this helps. It sounds a lot but in week 4 and I’m still motivated and learning what I can eat. For eating I use the change for life smart recipes and bbc good food app. Good luck
