Good morning! Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 11.6 pounds, and today I weigh exactly 14 stone, so I have gained 2.4 pounds this week. Seeing 14 stone on the scale again, is certainly the wake-up call I need to try to stick to my goals this week. I started off the week quite well, in that I was eating sensibly and exercising regularly, but as the week progressed I fell off the weigh-loss wagon and overate.

So, what am I going to do differently this week? I hope to track my calories and exercise. I had stopped doing that over the past few weeks. Although I had written down what I had eaten and drunk, I hadn't calculated my calorie intake. I will also try to commit to doing 3 gym sessions this week. I only managed 1 last week. I would also like to do 1 session of weight training as well, and do some regular walking.

I would like to lose 2 pounds this week, so that I can be back in the 13 stone arena, instead of 14 stone.

Although I feel disappointed by my weigh-gain this week, I am grateful that I am feeling 'motivated' by it - as I think it's given me the 'wake-up call' I need to do something about it, and get the weight off again. Therefore, I am also reminding myself that I would like to achieve the goal of being 12 stone 7 pounds by the end of this year.

I hope you will join me for this Monday weigh-in - and share your experiences. I hope you've had a good week, and I look forward to hearing how you've doing. Wishing everyone a positive week ahead.

Oh dear Lowcal, sorry to hear the upward trend has continued but glad you have a plan and the motivation to sort it out! I've lost 0.8lb this week so happy that I'm still a loser. 165lb down to 151.8lb. In 5 weeks. I've managed to get my target jeans on and done up but they are still VERY tight so more to do but I'm going in the right direction. Survived 11 days of visitors - actually easy on low carb high fat as I'm just not tempted to over eat unbelievably. And I ate out 3 times this week! I drank more wine than I would normally have drunk though. So, another 5lb to target. Keep the motivation going all out there!

ZestHealthy BMI in reply toJlmitch

Hi Jlmitch,

Congratulations on losing 0.8lb this week, that's really great. Those target jeans will be fitting even better and losing their tightness soon! Really great that you were able to cope with having your visitors and eating out 3 times this week as well. Interesting that you mentioned the wine - they have been discussing the calories in wine during the Breakfast news broadcast. Equating a glass of wine with a piece of cake, in terms of numbers of calories.

Thanks for your encouraging words. I feel more determined to reverse my 'gaining trend' and hope to begin losing again as from now.

Have a great week.

Oh dear Lowcal how frustrating especially as you had such a positive holiday, I am in the same boat! I am 11st exactly this morning, and frankly I am bored, I have lost and gained the same 4lbs since January, that said I do feel my abs are improving. Focus this week not to pig out so much this weekend.......

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toPrin

Hi Prin,

Great to see you. Sorry to hear you've also gained. Crossing the stone barrier is really disheartening isn't it... But hopefully we can get through this, and move forward and become 'losers' again... :-)

Great to hear that your abs are improving though - you do lots of exercise, and your body must be getting really toned and fit. Sometimes the scales don't reflect such changes.

I have borrowed a book from the library about Weight Training, so I'm hopeful to tone up more myself.

Wishing you a great week ahead, and think of some ways to relieve your boredom. Maybe you can try a new exercise class, or a new recipe.

Keep going, and you'll get back below 11 stone before you know it!

Hi PrIn,

I think I know how you feel. I'm getting real benefit from the gym because my muscle tone is improving, and so is my flexibility and stamina - but what I really want is to lose the pounds ! The people I am visiting in Switzerland in mid October all weigh about six stone wet through. I feel enormous at the side of them :-(( Not sure whether that thought is motivating me or depressing me.

6st is just not natural unless you are a hobbit so look on yourself a not far from a normal weight (with good muscle tone!). Best wishes for the coming week.

Hello,

Sorry that you've had another gain but happy that you're now motivated to get back to the logging and counting.

Last week I weighed 16st 6lbs, today i weigh 16st 3lbs, so I've had a very happy 3lbs loss taking my total loss to 29lbs, so glad to have broken through the plateau and reached the 2 stone loss. Next week i will be very happy to maintain as people at work have been on holiday last week which means treats today, I'm getting much better at resisting temptation but as soon as a box of brownies comes in my will power leaves, so fingers crossed no one brings any of those in!

Hope you're motivation continues and you get back on track :)

Hi Kate,

Wow, really pleased to hear you've lost 3lbs this week - you're doing so well. Breaking through the plateau and reaching a 2 stone loss is incredible. Well done! Hope noone brings in Brownies today - but if they do, hopefully you can just enjoy one.

Many thanks for your encouraging words - I have already moved temptation by freezing a couple of muffins that I had made, so that I can't be tempted to eat them today. I have some strawberries and blueberries in the fridge to have if I get peckish. Had a sustaining breakfast to keep me going till lunchtime.

Have another great week.

Yes, frozen muffins are useful to have in store. Good luck with your goal to get back to smaller portions, and hope you have a great week.

Hi lowcal, sorry to hear about your gain, hopefully that will be reversed next week.

This week I have lost another pound. It was my last week on the 12 week plan so that means I have lost 1 stone 10 pounds over the last 3 months! Just another 2 and a half stone to go to my target weight. I've also completed week one of the strength and flex programme and so am feeling a little bit virtuous!

My biggest decision (which has slightly surprized me!) is that I am going to try doing the couch to 5k programme, if my knees will cope. I am determined to be fit as well as slim!

Zest profile image

Hi Catch,

I think it's great that you've lost another pound this week. Also brilliant to hear that you've lost 1 stone 10 pounds over the past 3 months, and you've completed the 12 week plan. Really great progress. You mentioned the 'strength and flex programme' - that sounds good.

So many people speak very positively of the Couch to 5k, so I wish you lots of success with that.

Thanks for your encouraging words to me too.

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Good morning LowCal and everyone,

After last week's disappointing weigh-in I was a bit apprehensive this morning. Today I am 10st 11lbs 6oz. This means I have lost some of the weight I gained last week but not all of it (I achieved 10.10.2 a fortnight ago!)

Thanks to some advice from Sophia I have found some exercise I can do at home on the four days when I do not do a gym Session. So I have to stick to this extra exercise and take special care about calorie counting - which I had been getting careless about.

I now have a new incentive. A friend who lives in Switzerland has invited me have a week's holiday with her family in Mid October. I am going to try and lose 14 lbs (a stone) before I board that plane! This means a minimum loss of one and a half pounds per week.

I do hope we can both manage our goals - and that everyone else will be successful as well.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toAutumn-Witch

Hi Autumn-Witch,

Really pleased to hear you've lost some weigh this week, that's great! Also good that you've been able to do those exercises that Sophia suggested. Good luck with the calorie counting this week. I have just completed some new goals on Myfitnesspal, and feel good for having re-started specific tracking again.

How exciting that you have such a positive incentive to look forward to, and work towards in mid-October. That will be very motivating. Something lovely to look forward to.

Wishing you another positive week, and hope it is an enjoyable one. Yes, let's hope we all achieve our goals. Thanks for your encouragement.

Hi Lowcal, Sorry to hear about your gain. Good idea about the weight training though, which book do you have? Coincidentally I bought "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" on Saturday. Once this blasted half marathon is over, I'd like to cut back the running a little. I reckon the best way to do that without gaining weight, is to do regular weight training. I can tell already that the NROLFW book is going a lot further than I want to with lifting, but it does have explanations/photos of the different moves, which will be really handy for me.

I am 9s 8lb today. So 1lb heavier than I was two weeks ago. I feel I've lost my dieting mojo a little, and that my head is full of running training. My target this week is to log my food very accurately on my fitness pal. So the same as you with the calorie counting.

Good luck with the week ahead!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toburntsun

Hi Burntsun,

Yes, we need to get our dieting mojo back, and logging should hopefully help us. Thanks for mentioning the title of the book on weight training. It sounds good. You asked me what book I'm reading - it's by Lesley Harrison and is called "Weight Training for Women: A Beginner's Guide" - it has some very basic exercises, but I think it's just what I need, as I just want to be able to do some exercises at home with a pair of dumb bells. I was able to calculate my basal metabolic rate (which was 1619.46) so the fact that myfitnesspal has recommended I eat 1500 calories per day means I should be losing something this week hopefully.

How long do you have to go before your Marathon? Hope your running training continues to go well and enjoy your new book on the weight training. I agree, it seems a really good way to go.

Have a great week.

Morning all! :)

Congrats to all the losers this week. And don't worry to those who did not, today is a new week and a fresh start, you can do it!

I'm sorry to hear about your gain Lowcal, I hate when I get on the scales and it shows I've put on weight. At least you know where you went wrong and can hopefully keep an eye on that this week. :)

After last weeks weigh in and having lost 3lbs I was feeling very motivated to have another good week even though I knew I had a trip planned on the weekend. I did enjoy myself and ate what I wanted as I knew it was just a couple of days and I would be back to normal this week. Also, I did do a lot of walking so wasn't overly concerned about too much of a weigh gain.

To my relief this morning I had still lost 1lb!

This brings me down to 12st 6lb which is the lowest I've been in a long time! :D I am feeling more motivated by the week!

I did make one change this morning though. My target weight is 10st, but I've found I have struggled before as this goal seems so far away! I feel like I will never get there. So I decided to make my goal smaller so it seems more within reach. My new goal is to get to 12st so I only have 6lbs to lose. Then when I reach that, I will set a new goal.

I feel like this will be good for me as I have suffered with high blood pressure being overweight but have found the more lbs I lose, the lower it seems to be getting.

I also have a wedding in September so the more weight I lose by then, the better!

I hope everyone has a good week this week. Happy losing! :)

Hi Sophie,

Well done for losing another pound. That's really great. You are doing really well. I think that your decision to break down your goals into achievable chunks is really sensible. It's great that you have a Wedding to go to in September as another motivating factor.

Even better is the fact that your blood pressure is getting better as you lose more weight. Really good.

Hope you have another great week ahead, and thank you for your encouraging words.

A bit like yourself I've had a couple of bad weeks but miraculously haven't gained started last week 17st 9lb and same this week. Twisted my knee, time of month and felt too sorry for myself so had pizza, doughnuts and chocolate oh and pop. Feel exhausted and ratty as a result of junk so back on it now! Hopefully will be more prepared next month :-) x

Hi Aquahol,

Sorry to hear you've had a couple of bad weeks, but pleased to hear that you didn't gain any weight - that's a positive in the circumstances! Hope your knee is feeling a bit better after you twisted it, and at least you've got through the time of the month too - hopefully you'll feel less exhausted and ratty now that you're able to get back to eating healthier foods. Good luck with it, and let's hope we all have a really good week this week and we can report a loss next week.

Good luck. :-)

Hi All

I've managed to lose 3lb this week. Only week 2 so I guess I'm still on with the beginners luck and all. But it has been a tough week at work so I shouldn't lessen my achievment too much.

I've also set smaller goals this time round in the hope that I feel like I'm getting somewhere on the long (3st) journey.

My lessons learned this week were that I can have just a smidgen (as my grandad would say) of what I like. I had a small scone yesterday after my nephews birthday party. It's just making sure I count it and limiting it to just one. A tough lesson but one I feel I must keep sight of.

So sorry to hear of those who've not had a good week. It's so very hard to diet and get on with 'normal' life as well. What with all the ups & downs and the myriad of temptations at every turn.

All the best to us all for a healthy week ahead.

Keep on keeping on -

Ruth xxxx

Hi Ruth,

Really great to hear you've lost 3 pounds this week, especially as you've had a tough week at work. Well done for getting through that.

Glad you enjoyed your nephew's Birthday party and that small scone. Like you said, a smidgen of what you like is not excessive and helps with the myriad of temptations that abound.

Wishing you another positive week ahead.

I have just finished week 2 with a total weight loss of 4lb, although slightly disappointed at only losing 1/2lb this weeks as I feel I had less calories this week than the first week. Maybe I am having too few calories. As I am disabled there is not a lot of exercise I can do apart from slow walking and swimming. Am unable to do the strength exercises they are on about as I have no feeling in my feet due to diabetic neuropathy. However I have lost 3.1/2 inches off my tummy.

I am going to try and eat a bit more this week and do a little more walking.

Good luck everyone

Hi Christine58,

Yes, it does take a while to come off, that is for certain, but a slow and steady weight loss is ideal - more of a lifestyle change that is sustainable for the future.

Hi Christine58. If you have managed to lose 3 1/2 ins from your tummy you are dong just great! Sometimes there is little or no weight loss but it shows up the week after. So the smaller waist is a good sign. Body measurements are as important as weight loss so keep up the good work!

My first weigh in on this program starting at 198 and was 195.4 today so pleased with 2 1/2lb loss, think the c25k is helping, never done anything like that be for but hoping along with 1300-1500 cals I will get there !

That's my kind of exercise. This is definitely the time to buy wood in- which reminds me I must get some delivered soon. My exercise today was dog walking and lifting 8 very heavy (20/25kg) containers of 'stuff' at work.

I'm trying to get a few relatively low calorie days in the bank as I know treats must be had at some point.

Enjoy the visit from your mum and a treat or two.

Hi Lowcal, I arrived back from the UK last night, having extended my one week stay to two weeks, as Mum really poorly and Dad struggling. Although I have been fairly good, couldn't resist a bacon butty one day, fish and chips (6 chips and took the batter off the fish) another, I guess all the English stuff I miss. HOWEVER, I have lost 6lbs! I have indeed gone into the next stone down, 11 weeks ago was in the 18's and now in the 15's so smiling from ear to ear. My next milestone is to lose 5 more pounds which will give me a three stone weight loss in total. Yay!!! COME ON GIRLS, WE CAN DO IT!

Hi Candystripe,

Welcome back. Hope your Mum is as comfortable as she can be, and I am sure they appreciated your visit. Understandable that you relished some of the English treats, and hope you enjoyed them. A bacon butty can be particularly tasty. I always take the batter off fish, and think that's a good strategy to enjoy Fish & Chips.

Wow, your progress is so inspiring - you're in the 15's now instead of the 18's, and that is incredible. Congratulations on losing 6 pounds. Was that over 2 weeks?

Love your enthusiasm, and really happy for you. Yes, you're right, we can do it. :-)

Well done to those who lost and sympathies to those who gained. I have found a wonderful full body toning excercise thats working for me. I started lifting weight 4 weeks ago and also do stationary bike workouts. Then I bought a 9kg kettlebell, absolutely marvelous. Found lots of kettlebell excercises on youtube. My absolute favourite being the kettlebell swing. Gives you a great core workout and my belly is deflating at a fast rate. The kettlebell workout has also accelerated my weight loss. I am starting to see positive results in my muscle tone. I love my kettlebell, everyone should have one.
