Fallen off the wagon

I joined this group a few years ago desperate for help with my weight loss journey but I find it so difficult to stay focused. I am a yo yo dieter and have come to have such a adverse relationship with food at times I don’t want to eat scared to put more weight on and others I love food and it’s my comfort.

I have been trying to get myself into routine eating 3 times a day although a struggle while I’m at work at 7am till late I find it difficult to eat breakfast before on my feet all day so I would say may 3 out of 5 days I would manage that.

However since being in lock down I have made a concerted effort to ensure I eat breakfast but I’m struggling with just constantly thinking about food, I have downloaded the my fitness pal and trying to record meals to the target of 1600 as it suggests but some days it might be higher than that although I haven’t eaten any more than 3 meals.

I feel I am coming too obsessed with this now I’m scared to just have another tea or coffee for the calories I have to scan, I am trying to do, some excercise I watch others and see all these meals they have and sometimes it seems a lot of food and I guess if scanned would be a lot of calories but they loose weight I don’t understand

How do you stay so focused I am trying my hardest but still feel I’m failing

Welcome back, Lozx :)

This information is really useful for yoyo dieters healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... . It points you in the direction of this way of eating, which works well for anyone getting bogged down with counting calories, which can just raise anxiety, as you say dietdoctor.com/low-carb

To make the most of the forum, get involved with our activities, particularly a weekly weigh in and the Daily Diary. You'll find them all in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

All the best :)

Hi I've just joined the group and I feel for you, it's so hard to stick with healthy eating cause we have to constantly make the right choice several times a day every day. My advice to you is just focus on the day your in right now, don't worry about yesterday that's gone, don't worry about tomorrow it's not hear yet so why worry about it, focus on how you can make positive changes today in your eating, keep a journal before you go to sleep and get negative thoughts out of your head and congratulate yourself for the good choices you've made for that 1 day. You can get there 1 day at a time.

Thankyou greta123 🙂 that's a good idea too i should keep a log to my feelings then maybe i can see what triggers me to comfort eat but very sensible advice to concentrate 1 day at a time and every day a new day to improve xx

Hi Lozx-this is the reason I gave up calorie counting and just eat healthily and don't overeat. I don't think I will ever get over my obsession with food but try to control it-read Wordsworth post a few days ago and that helped xx

Thankyou journalgirl I Will try have a look at that post I feel I may be the same way never able to get over this obsession xx

I've been a yoyo dieter too (I previously lost over 7st only to regain most of it!) But I'm learning to be kinder to myself and to give myself rewards that aren't food related.

It does sound like you're being too hard on yourself. It's okay not to eat breakfast for example. Lots of people thrive on intermittent fasting (and I never thought I'd be one of them, but I actually love eating that way now, listening to when my body requires energy rather than eating by the clock or out of anything except genuine hunger).

You might want to think about filling in your food diary in advance. It's a way of taking control. Plus you know that when you eat, you can just enjoy it without fretting about calories.

Take care of yourself. You've totally got this! 💪

Thankyou sammiseal i feel you are right organisation is key and by pre deciding my meals will be easier to stay on track i was looking into the 5/2 diet too maybe that would help with a bit of my calories reduction.
