Hello and Welcome to the Weight Loss Forum AndreeaL

Sugar cravings are caused by several things, it can be hunger, pure and simple, so please make sure you’re eating enough. Secondly, eating sugar causes furthe sugar cravings, have a look at this healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Lastly, it could be habit, I now have a coffee with cream after my evening meal and have lost the habit of eating something sweet to ‘finish off’, it’s not easy but habits can be broken 👍

If you haven’t already then please read the Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please read it carefully so you can find all the information you need to find your way around.

Best wishes in your weight loss journey

Hi AndreeaL,

I just eat dates or the like. In fact, I just had some dates, plus an apple, could have been a banana instead.

Try a baked sweet potato or potato an hour before bedtime?

All the best :)

Just be cautious with dates and bananas, they have an awful lot of sugar in them, and could easily set off further cravings 😕

Yea, that´s a good reminder IndigoBlue :) Gladly now I´ve got a bellyful of lentils and rice, and I don´t think I could eat anything more. In the mornings I like oatmeal with chopped banana, doesn´t really cause cravings, thanks to the oats :) I think the main thing generally is to eat enough starch, then one doesn´t get huge sugar cravings.

I also think a baked potato/sweet potato is a bad idea. They both have higher glycemic index than table sugar. They will hit your blood stream like candy, spike your insulin blood glucose will crash. You will be rummaging in the cupboard for coco pops at 3am.

A high fat snack is better. Cheese, or berries and cream.

May sound daft but are you eating enough and the right things. If you eat sugar you crave more sugar. If you don't think you can go cold turkey cut down day by day and beware of hidden sugars.
