Well done on giving up smoking - how about using the same method to give up sugar?

Hi I think I will just have to face it, I need to give it up completely the thought of it is making me get shakes and irritable but you are right there is no easy way thank you for your reply.
Hi and welcome, Nswift1978
I cured my sugar and nicotine addiction in one fell swoop by going cold turkey and giving them both up completely. That was 4 years ago and I still don't allow either in my life, as I'm pretty sure the addiction would return, if I did.

Can you try switching to coffee?? You’re stimulant seeking it’s pretty normal to go through that. Use stevia instead of sugar in coffee.
Hello and welcome
I only get sugar cravings if I’ve not eaten enough, or when I’m especially tired. Under-eating does not help weight loss and is one of the biggest causes of weight loss failure. Also eating the right types of food is important, ones that are nutrient dense and help keep you full like proteins and fats.
Please read all the information you have been given and check out your calorie target on the NHS BMI checker 😊
My husband is similar but still smokes. He is addicted to suger but finds eating protin helps. He buys bags of dried bultong South African meat snack and eats that. He has type 2 diabetis and was very ill with eating suger. his blood sugars were around 13 now are normal 5.4 most days.He hides the evidence too when he has a bad day . You need to find a food to replace your craving .The high fat low carbs diet is working for him
good luck.
Hi, Nswift1978 , Welcome.
Discipline and self-control help, but sugar and refined carbohydrates make you hungry for more, so cold turkey helps.
If you eat plenty of good food, including satisfying fat, at mealtimes it will help prevent hunger for snacks between meals.

Hi Nswift
Have you identified when you you particularly reach for the sugary snacks? Any particular time of day or linked to particular emotions? Understanding that might help you develop a strategy that works for you-if you haven’t already I would keep a food diary.
My sugar cravings are loads better since cutting down on the carbs I eat, but initially it was the food diary that made all the difference as I pledged to myself that I would write every morsel I ate down (preferably before I ate it!) This helped to hold myself to account and often stopped me indulging.
The daily diary is a great way of developing the discipline to plan your food and get feedback from people who understand the struggle!
Good luck
Hi Nswift1978 I have just seen in the diet doctor an interesting article on sugar and how to give it up - unfortunately I am out at the mo and can't seem to get the link posted for you
But if you are interested let me know and I will find it tonight 🙂👍
