I'm a newbie

Hi all,

I am not a stranger to a diet plan. I've tried them all over the last 10 years! But since being 35 my weight has crept up by another two stone and it's just not shifting. GP doesn't want to know as I have no associated issues like diabetes or heart problems.

I've told myself that 2020 is the year to shift at least the two stone to get my BMI under 30. I've got three stone to lose with my target my birthday in October.

I think exercise is my biggest battle, I like a good walk but it's not enough, it stops the gain but doesn't increase the lose. I joined the gym last week to find it's being refurbished until March! (Although they still took my money). I'm going to start swimming but want to start the gym first and add swimming later. So I don't lose my motivation.

I'm looking at pilates classes with a friend in the spring, but she's unreliable so I'm not having much hope that that being regular.

So this is where I am currently at. My husband is doing it with me this time, think that will help with the motivation.

Looking forward to chatting with some of you

Hello shorty782 and welcome to the Forum! What we eat is the most important consideration when if comes to losing weight. The following article might be of interest?

You will have been sent a Welcome post on registration which gave you advice and guidance on how to navigate this site.

Here's a reminder link to that Site Guide.

There's a lot there but it's worth taking your time to read, honest!

We recommend that members join a Weekly Weigh-In, on the day of your choice, and also use the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans and get useful feedback.

A special feature of our Forum is the degree of support between members which you will experience (and add to yourself !) as you join in and chat with others.

All the best on your weight-loss journey ! 😊

Hello. Another newbie..hooray.

As Diane says healthy food choices are the best start.

Personally I end up failing if I start too many different goals at once especially lots of exercises at once. I always dive head in to everything but quickly bore or get injured. If you are already walking then just try adding the gym or swimming 1-2 times a week. Once you are in the habit of setting time aside and motivating yourself for each session you can increase frequency, length of session or type of exercise but just one thing at a time is best until that is a habit. Fabulous you have hubby's support. Good luck, cant wait to hear what you decide to do. X

Hi shorty782 , welcome.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
