New start: Hi I have had enough dieting... - Weight Loss Support
New start
Hi and welcome, Tilliemint
Many of us arrive here after years of yoyo dieting and decide a different and more sustainable course of action is required. Have a look at these, as they certainly helped me healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...
All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.
We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.
Wishing you all the best for 2020
Hi tilliemint, welcome to the group. Im on the keto health plan. Which are you following? Most here follow some form of low carb high fat or calorie count.
Welcome Tilliemint Give up the idea of going on a diet. Instead start eating healthily. No processed foods just good old natural foods. This isn’t as restrictive as it sounds. Fresh fruits and vegetables and meat, fish and poultry (unless you are vegetarian).
Many of us on here follow a LCHF way of eating and it seems to work for quite a few.
Join in as much as you can and you will get loads of support.
Good luck. 😀
Hi Tilliemint. My story is the same as yours and I totally relate. I started my journey at the beginning of November 2019 and have found the support on here very motivating. I have chosen Friday as a weigh in day and set myself weekly targets as you do in slimming clubs. I am following LCHF diet and 16:8 Intermittent fasting. I have found it easy to adapt to with the family meals and don’t beat myself up if I have a higher amount of carbs on some day’s. I am 17lbs lighter now and very happy. Good luck with your journey x
Ahhh I think I have figured out how to reply to you 🤞I have been trying to look up LCHF diet 16:8 I have no idea lol help I have been following slimming world ish on my own doing healthy meals my partner is doing it with me he is desperate to loose weight too 😊
LCHF - low carbs, high/healthy fat.
Almost the opposite of slimming world, it focuses on keeping starchy foods low (SW these are "free foods") and replacing some of those calories with fats, including cream and butter. It also focuses on real food (ie home made) while I was told by SW that I would have to stop making my own yoghurt and buy the brands they recommend.
It's going to be a culture shift, that's for sure.
16:8 is a form of intermittent fasting, where you only eat within an 8 hour window. Sounds tough, but it need not be. In my case, it's just skipping breakfast. Eg When you finish your dinner, say at 8pm, then you don't eat anything until 12pm the next day.
But don't start there, unless you can easily skip breakfast. Start with a 12 hour fast. You are probably close to that already. If you finish dinner at 8pm, then nothing but tea, coffee or water until 8am. That's not hard for most people. Stick with that discipline for a while, then try extending your fast.
There's lots of different ways of intermittent fasting, that's just an example.
(I lost 7kg in my first month)
I had done slimming world on and off for over 25 years. At one stage 7 years ago I reached target but failed to maintain it. Im using the my fitness pal app and recording everything I eat and drink daily. I really think this helps me to stay focussed. I started doing the. 12:12 and moved to 16:8 as I just wasn’t hungry at breakfast time and have lunch and dinner. However, if I am hungry during the morning I do have something to eat but this is few and far between
Hi, Tilliemint , welcome.
If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.
Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
