Just joined today. I am committed to completing “ dry January” and hope it will continue beyond that. It’s had started to become the norm to have a glass or two post shift but I’ve put on so much weight as a result. It’s so affected my sleeping pattern for the worst. Besides will power can you offer any advice that may help?
Thanks kirsty x

Eleanorba hosts a Drink Less Club every month and I'm sure she'd be only to happy for you to join in. Her post and all the other information about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.
We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.
The dearly beloved and i have been doing dry jan for yeards and it can be a slog sometimes as the habit is always in the background.
I like herbal tea in the evening instead, the DB has sparkly water (19p for 2L in asda, so cheaper too!). Then theres tonic etc. You feel you're doing the same thing, but not hurting yourself.
The seep issue does sort itself out, alchol knocks you out to start with and then you wake early etc.
Hopefully see you in the dry Jan thread Eleanorba will have tagged you in ☺️
I am also doing dry Jan, well I'm nearly at 100 days of no drinking/ smoking.
Agree with others suggestions of finding alternative drinks, I like herbal teas or hot chocolates.
It can be difficult not to drink after a stressful time as you feel this is how you unwind. I have a dog so have taken to walking her straight after I get in from work and possibly 2/3 times after that in the evening.
Could you find something else to keep you busy after work such as walking, swimming, gym?
I do advise not to have any alcohol around you, but it gets much easier and your willpower will increase. I also have a tracker so can see how far I've gone without things etc ☺️
Feel free to message anytime if you are struggling and need someone to talk to!
Thanks so much! 100 days wow huge well done. Yes I’ve started the couch to 5k already completed two runs which I’m finding motivating. Also I have a meditation app which I’m using in the evenings. Thanks for your support xx
