6th Jan weigh in...

I weighed this morning at 159.6 lbs and a BMI of 29.2. As a large build woman of 5ft 2" my target weight is 135 (9st 9), but don't think I'll make that in 12 weeks! Are we supposed to set a 12 week target or an overall one?

Thanks.

I think it would be an overall one. We are a similar weight and an inch of difference in height so that's probably what I should weigh

I think it depends quite a lot on your build too. My weight range on the NHS BMI calculator shows as being between 7st 3lbs and 9st 11lbs - I know I'd never make 7st 3!! Also I'm 42 so I imagine it'll be harder to shift than it was a few years ago. I'm going to see what I can do in 12 weeks anyway - I graduated from the couch to 5k programme before Christmas and want to do a 10k this year (my only NY resolution) and I'm figuring it'll be easier if there's less of me to haul round the course :-).

Hi Sedw. I joined today and am the same weight as you and am 5' 5. My healthy range spans over three stones! I know I will get nowhere near the lower end! As 1 to 2 lbs a week is sensible, I'm going to try to lose 2lb a week half the time, and 1lb a week half the time - ie. 18lb. I think I might be thinking this over too hard!

You set whatever targets suit you and your lifestyle. The recommendation is 1 -2 pounds per week. Initially it could come off faster and then slow down a bit. I personally have been very slow to lose weight - but i completely understand that that is down to me and my lifestyle. I have an overall target in mind- but I have mini goals set as well- E.g first half stone, 5% of my body weight, 10% of my body weight, first stone, drop a dress size and so on.

So my overall target is to be 10 and half stone- I would like to consolidate 1 stone lost and then working towards 10% of body weight lost and to get my BMI under 28.

There are some fantastically inspiring stories on this site- olsbeans springs to mind as does legs123

Have a good week :-)

I agree with suzybenj - you set whatever targets suit you and your lifestyle.

I am now starting my third set of 12 weeks as I had a lot of weight to use. I have an overall goal in mind (August for my sons wedding) and have just over 2 stone to go. However, I set myself smaller targets having been given that advice on this forum (probably by suzybenj!)

It's a good way of re-educating yourself and working out why you put on the weight in the first place as you go along.

Good luck.

Thanks all - I'll bear it all in mind! I think I'm going to go with a target of a stone in the 12 weeks. On the basis of 1-2 lbs per week this sounds doable. first 2 days have gone well but I have a stinking cold so little appetite; it will likely get harder when I recover!

That's me just back on today sedw, I think that's great you went from couch to 5k. I would love to have a go at that. Good luck with the 10k am sure you will do it
