Temptation tips?

Hey everyone, guess I'm posting quite a lot but I have so many questions it's not funny x

Does anyone have any tips for how to best temptations?

For example:

I live with my family and for the second time this week alone they have ordered a Chinese (my favourite meal from it to) whilst I have made my own dinner and not consumed any, now the only thing today that stopped me from giving in and taking a portion was that my weigh in day is tommorow and I am so excited for that.

But... does anyone have any real tips on how to beat temptation in every day situations or any tips on how to make the decision between good and bad?

Or is it something I have to figure out myself? X

Are your family aware of your goals? Are they willing to support you? If they are planning a TA, can you ensure you have a fake away ready.. similar to the food they will have but healthier? Planning can get you out of many a temptation.. but only if you plan ahead and are ready for it 😉

Wishing you a great week. 🎉

I've found resisting temptation to be a very individual thing as we all think and process in different ways. Personally I thought about how I think / feel about things when they arise? How best do I respond either positive reinenforcement or negative commenting even if it is only in my head?

I can only give you what I've found personally what works for me. You may find them useful or not, you may even find them ridiculous and silly but I know they work for me.

1. I keep a mental list of why I am choosing to resist temptation. I know of some who keep a physical list in their purse/wallet which they can physically bring out and read and another friend cut out a picture of the type of weight / body she would like to be from a magazine and she carries it with her as a reminder of what she is aiming for. My list of why I'm resisting is definitely a helpful reminder.

2. I factor in occasionally things I find most tempting. I've found by not denying what is tempting me every single time, I'm less overcome by it on the whole and more likely to say no when its not been factored in.

3. I talked to my family when I started losing weight asking where possible to support me especially with "naughty foods". As a family we cut down on the number of take aways and in return I do more cooking from scratch. I even searched for similar healthier recipes to take out to try and make up for it. Its not easy as my dad is quite fussy and he is most likely to buy temptation foods, but I have found it helps.

4. I literally smack my own hand and tell myself no I do not want it, that it is not a need but a want and I don't need everything I want. I even practiced in the mirror just sitting and saying things like "No", "No thank you", "Thank you but not this time", even this one to my mom when my dad has bought chocolate and I am really really tempted, "Can you hide this for me?"; although I've only needed to do that one a couple of times as I'm relatively in control now.

I hope you can find some ways that help you

It's a difficult one Littlejen what Minniewinny says it is key being prepared to resist temptation is useful but I have to say there will always be people eating unhealthy food in our midst and we just really have to get used to it. I usually talk to myself in my head.

Tonight on the way home my friend stopped for a take away and I even went in with her to keep her company while she waited and I could easily have bought something. The reason I didn't was because a) I had something prepared at home, b) I spoke to myself in my head and told myself that what I had at home was nicer and healthier and that being thinner and fitter would feel better than the take away would taste.

I also have a photo of myself in my underwear in my phone, which I sometimes think about if I think I am likely to give in to temptation. There are also times when I think about having something, then say to myself "why undo what you have achieved so far." My food diary also helps stop me from eating unhealthily as I don't want to have to record junk food.

I even sometimes go to the chocolate aisle in the supermarket look at the chocolate and think "no none of it is worth it" I realise that I have been eating healthy for 7 months now and I have developed new habits and that does make it a bit easier. I think, however, Beth is right we are all very different and what works for one person might not work for others. Good luck.

My hubby pulls me away from certain aisles.. I laugh and say I can't get fat by looking or smelling them!! As long as I'm not buying or eating them!

A good rule of thumb in supermarkets is just to stick to the perimeter. I don't know why, but usually the layout is that all the fresh, single ingredient produce is around the outside, and the further into the centre you go, the more processed and packeted everything gets.

Try not to have tempting food around

In a social situation say no thanks I will lol have some later

I look at the cake or whatever and remind myself that it represents 4 hours walking or a days shortfall for 20 seconds or so of sweet taste followed by anger that I have eaten it

I remind myself of how hard I have worked so far

If there is a tasty take away can you bulk it out with a healthy Lo al vegetables like cabbage etc and have just a quarter helping

Not what you're looking for?
