Hello all. I am new here and I am wondering if you could help me with something.
I am 18. Recently I have noticed that I am getting extremely breathless after very little movement. Notably, I am finding it increasingly tiresome to climb stairs. I have not really exercised since I was about 5 years old, and since primary school have spent around 23h per day sitting, so my fitness has never been great. However, I have gained a significant amount of weight in the last 2 years and believe this may have something to do with the decline. Either that, or it is a different issue I should be looking into. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum JoshHills123
This is a peer to peer support group and we are not medically trained so you really must see a healthcare professional as breathlessness could be caused by many things. That said, if you wish to lose weight in a safe and sustainable way you have come to the right place 😊
You will have been given links to our Pinned Posts in your Welcome Message when you first joined, please read them carefully as they contain a lot of information about finding your way around. Please also note that when you write a new post you are given the option to only allow forum members to view your post, which we recommend or else anyone on the WorldWideWeb can see your post.
This is a very busy forum with lots going on but feel free to ask if you have any questions.
Hi Josh and welcome. I agree with Indigo that you should see a doctor about the breathlessness.
Hopefully you are alright and just need to start taking better care of your body 🤗 How about just introducing a daily 10 minute brisk walk? Walking is really good exercise nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/w...
As others said it is worth getting checked out by the GP. Hopefully there is no medical reason. My OH had a similar problem with breathlessness but he is mid 50s. His job involves a lot of sitting and driving. He also stays away and eats out a lot. He had various tests but nothing was found. I have encouraged him to do more walking with me. It is the best way to get fitter and helps weight loss as well. He is also following LCHF with me. He has lost some weight and is able to walk further without getting breathless.
Try and do a short walk each day and gradually build up. Try the active 10app. Also look at what you eat. Try and cut out junk food and high carb foods and focus on eating healthy fresh food. The NHS 12 week plan has lots of tips for getting started. Also the LCHF forum on here.
Start with small changes and build from there. Join a club if you feel group support may help. Set yourself a realistic goal for your weight and excercise, and reward your achievements with special treats, not food,! You are young, but an adult so you have control of your situation. Think about your long term health goals. You can do this.
