Hi has anyone found it hard to lose weight with thyroid problems. My thyroid measurement is TSH 6.2 which is over the average. Can you still lose weight if your watch your calories?
Thanks. Lindyloom

Hi lindyloom, if your TSH is that high, then you're undermedicated and weight loss will be difficult, if not impossible, until you get that sorted out.
I advise you to join the Thyroid UK forum, for further guidance healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk
Thanks Moreless. The doctor didn't seem that troubled about 6.2 and said to re-do blood test in 2 months time. Anyway I will join the Thyroid UK forum to see what they say about it. I thought the weight was struggling to come off and I had been writing down everything I ate. Thanks for the information it was very kind. Cheers. Lindyloom
I'm afraid that most doctors don't understand the thyroid very well and the TSH test is of little importance once you've been diagnosed. Other blood tests are far better markers and you may find yourself having to get them done privately.
Good luck!
I wonder whether I should wait 2 months and have another test to see if it goes down. Only trouble is my weight will probably go up. I might see another doctor that I know see what he says as he is really good. My daughter has the same problem and she struggled to lose weight but now has medication to help her. I've never had the problem before. Thanks for all your help.
I wouldn't want to wait, as that will be 2 months wasted time. Have a look at this thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...
I also have hypothyroidism but with correct medication it shouldn’t affect weight loss.
Have a look at the TUK forum, fingers crossed you get some answers 🤞
I have underactive thyroid and take levothyroxine prescribed by the doctor but if ur not on medication try sea kelp to boost ur metabolism
