Day #1

Hey! Am starting the 12 week programme today. Have lost 18lb since April but my progress tapered off. Have weighed in this morning and I have maintained! So relieved. But now I’m back on it! Day #1 today. Time to take back control! First time joining an online community so in the spirit of trying new things, I’m excited to see what goes on here. Happy Saturday everyone.

Good morning, JaninePow, and welcome to the forum :)

My advice would be, if you're following the 12 week plan, get your calorie range from the NHS BMI calulator as the 1400 figure you see is generic and suits very few of us. It will give you a range and experience here will tell you to aim for the middle/upper end and definitely not to undercut it.

This is a busy forum so we've put the information you need to find your way around in a Welcome post. I have tagged you there so pop over and have a read. I recommend joining a weekly weigh in and using the Daily Diary for meal planning and sharing ideas. Everything is built around supporting each other so do reply to others and give a little encouragement - it's always appreciated.

I suggest you consider locking your posts, especially if your username is less than anonymous. This will explain why and how to do that healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

If you come here often (daily?), read, no need to post/blog, join in chats, ask questions, support others, it will really pay off for you so I hope to see you around :)

Good luck with your 12 weeks plan of making healthier choices. 12 week plan is brilliant. All my results from the free nhs health check have comeback as well within the healthy range now. This is completely by using the nhs 12 week plan and eating mostly home cooked healthy meals including all food groups, drinking more water and only occasional alcohol and exercising more. This is a peer to peer support group so there is no “expert” advice here but lots of support and tips on recipes and exercise.

That’s really encouraging to know. I haven’t tried this before so I’m hoping that the “12 week” time scale will help me ingrain new habits. Well done on getting into the healthy range and thanks for responding to my post x

Thank you for your encouraging words! I totally gave up around 6 weeks ago then I weighed myself yesterday and found that I have maintained! so thankful I haven’t put on again. Mainly by cutting out the booze I think, I managed to at least stick to that. Hoping that if I can do 12 weeks and not scare myself with the idea of “diets” and permanence I will build new habits!

Hello Janine, I think to be successful you have to take the word ‘diet’ out of the equation completely. Think of this as a way of eating healthily that will improve your health and well-being for life. The happy side effect of this is that you will lose weight and your health stats should improve too. Your body confidence will also improve, especially if you can manage to do some exercise as well (doesn’t have to be too strenuous, I just walk and swim). There will be ups and downs as with everything in life but you just have to hang on in there and not give up. Your healthy eating and lower alcohol intake will soon become a routine and will become just the way you live your life. Good luck x
