Hi

Please forgive long post before I start I have a couple of things I have had to lose weight for a full stomach reconstruction due to a hernia the size of a football on my side plus two other hernias along side I started in January at 20 stone I am now down to 14.11 I used Nhs weight loss but I have hit a brick wall but I think this is due to surgeon putting me on waiting list for op now .... I don’t think I want to go ahead with the surgery a month in Hosp poss complications when they put everything back in the right place yes they will remove the loose skin .... I have tried all forums to see if I can find out more about success results complications etc and can’t really find anything I am finding it hard to talk to anyone as everyone seems to think it will be wonderful ... but I have been in recovery from stomach surgery before ( perforated gastric ulcer) hence the massive hernia could any one please point me in a direction for information I have an under active thyroid which i am taking 200mcgs a day for but apart from the size of the hernia and the odd back ache I manage pretty much normal day to day living and I am wondering weather to go through with surgery but worry in time of it getting even bigger and as refusing the surgery now will lead to my highly thought of hard to get on his list surgeon giving up on me

Sorry for the long post and unsure where to post on here so thought I would start with the weight loss as this is what I have used to keep me motivated

I also look carefully at what I eat, and have reduced carbohydrates and reintroduced a little good healthy fat, read this post for an explanation but ignore the title, it applies to everyone healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Hi Jess and welcome. Congratulations on your weight loss to date, that's fantastic :)

I also don't have any medical experience. I can see though why you might be concerned about having any further surgery but only you have all the facts to hand. I'm guessing that the experts you've been talking to have given you an idea of the advantages and any pitfalls, after which it's down to you.

My thoughts on your weight loss journey is that you shouldn't let the worry of surgery prevent you from carrying on becoming healthier.

Information is key and if you haven't already, I suggest taking the time to read the links that Indigo has kindly provided.

Good luck and keep in touch :)

If you need the surgery to feel better ... that’s the key. It’s emotional it’s hard. I’d eat too. Check with yourself if it’s fear. It’s a lot. I really feel for you. What do you want in the end. Big hug to you.

Clearly you have a very real reason for improving your weight. The weight makes both the anaesthetic and surgical risk greater. So well done for coming here its a great help. The thyroid disease certainly affects the ability to lose weight and can affect mood. Keep at it, it will help you in so many ways as you lose those pounds. Keep the targets small and achievable and you WILL do it. Irrespective of the need for surgery you will feel so much better on a day to day basis. There are many people on this site who will be there to help.
