Reading your posts and replies it’s not lack of knowledge, it’s as if you don’t feel worthy. Forgive my bluntness, you need to have some self belief and make time for yourself

Maybe you need to put your health, weight loss and well being as your Number One Priority . . . Eating well is the ultimate in self respect. Make nutrition and forum support part of your daily routine 😊.

"If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got".

Don't blame yourself. If you follow the advice and the advice doesn't work, the only logical conclusion is that the advice is wrong ... so try a different approach.

The amount of different approaches I've tried, believe me the problem is me.

If the problem is you, then logically you might as well just give up.

Fortunately, it isn't true. Your body works the same as anybody else's does. You just haven't found the right method yet.

I see from your previous post that you're diabetic and your dietician has given you a plan that you don't expect to work. Can you describe what it is?

It would be easier for you to list the different methods.

I followed a dietiticians diabetes method for 6 years. I constantly had the shakes. lost 25 lbs. maintained the weight loss for years. did an injection diet with crackers cheese and green vegetables. lost 35 lbs. exercised maintained. weight training with diet. lost 20.

look I don't eat properly normally.

Let me guess: the "diabetes diet" was low-carb high-protein?

I'm more interested in what your dietician has suggested, because if he/she knows what he/she is doing, it might actually work.

Here's the biochemistry: because you are diabetic, your body has only one remaining energy pathway, which is dietary fat (and stored bodyfat, of course, but it can't access that at the moment). If your present diet contains any significant fraction of starches - bread, pasta, rice, etc - this will simply make you fatter and fatter, because your body has to dispose of it somewhere. It can't use it, and it can't excrete it, so it just shoves it into a "landfill". If you carry on with this long enough, you'll die. I suspect you know this.

The answer to your dilemma is incredibly simple: eat vegetables, meat, eggs, and dairy. Eat until you are full. Don't trim the fat off anything, and don't buy low-fat products. Get anything flour-based out of your house. You will need to get your doctor to adjust your insulin dosage - your dietician does not have the expertise to do this.

If your dietician has told you anything radically different, then you're right: it won't work. Hope you don't mind me being blunt about this, but as I'm sure you realise, this is now rather serious. It's a pity your medical team weren't interested in fixing it years ago - when it would have been 10x easier - but such is life. Since you've only just started taking insulin, you still have a chance of making a full recovery, or at least getting to a position where you need only modest drug support.

Meanwhile, you could start following the approach TheAwfulToad has given you.

With diabetes, it's not just about losing weight, it's about changing what and how you eat and you've been given good guidance there. Why wait two weeks when you can start today?

Morning WendyKathleen I do agree with The AwfulToad and that a change to what you are eating will be an absolutely game changer for you. We have all done the faddy diets, lost the weight only to put it on again, and then some. I am not diabetic, but I do follow the advice that TheAwfulToad has shared and have lost 2.5 stone and have never been healthier. This is also a way of life for me now - I will never go back to how I was eating before. That's the key to success I think - making changes that can become a permanent part of your life.

In additional to the advice already given, have a look at these couple of websites. They really helped me when I first started looking into this way of eating.

Don’t give up! I know it can seem bleak but it’s worth trying again. We’re here for you.

WendyKathleen profile image
WendyKathleen in reply toJuppy

Its not bleak. Its just time consuming and expensive, with not enough information available.

Oh good. I guess I was imposing my own bleak feelings from about a month ago before I decided to “get back up on the horse” as they say. I’m a newbie and hoping this forum will bring me through the tough times! I see some good advice above so hopefully you’ll find something there that is helpful.

Needn’t be expensive, there are budget shops that sell meat, dairy, eggs and veg. Just don’t waste money on bread, cakes, pasta, sugar etc as you know they will kill you ( or at least make your condition worse). It’s not that time consuming, you can knock up a stir fry or an egg frittata in minutes. Don’t think of this as a weight loss diet but a lifestyle change that will improve your health. The good news is that as a side effect you should also lose weight. The remedy is in your hands and you can choose to do it or not. I know what I would choose as life is too precious to squander. X
