I have just taken a very confused dog for a walk as I couldn't sleep. The dog is now flat out and snoring, me - i'm still wide awake. It was raining as I walked, and soooo quiet outside, rather eerie in places. BUT, as nice as the walk was, I need to be asleep, aaagh.
It is now 2.15 am and I am starting to feel hungry from the walk and fresh air. Do I go in search of a nibble or not? What can I nibble that I won't regret? Poop Poop Poop!!!!!!!!!
No, I'm not going to do it. If I open the fridge I know I will crumble. It is calling to me, the cheesebox is doing the dance of delight....... The breadbin is whispering sweet nothings in my ear........ Aaagh Poop Poop Poop........ Stop. I can do this, I can resist.
Well its nice to see a friendly face occasionally here on these long, lonely night shifts
And why exactly is there cheesecake in the fridge in the first place Missy? hmmm?
Your body doesn't *need* the cheese cake your mind does.
Now take that internal whinging, whining little 4 year old brat and out it in the naughty corner!
Its 11:30 a.m. I am just having a nice few strawberries for my snack - ever since I quit smoking and my taste buds returned I am starting to love them!
No cheesecake Dave, just the box that contains an assortment of cheese. My family do like our cheese, going for strong types which means consuming less. I don't know what got into me last night at all. I think I was trying to sabotage my 12 week weigh in today, didn't though. I ate just one cream cracker and 2 brazil nuts, nibbling at them like a mouse, lol. Then hit the sack again and fnally dozed off around 3am. Up at 6.30am again with the dog this morning, he doesn't do lie-ins.
Strange I usually do that-sabotage just before a weigh in. Glad I'm not on my own, its so frustrating when that sabotage blows a whole week of staying within calories
Hi lowcal, managed to just eat 1 cracker and 2 brazil nuts which took away all cravings. I managed to fall asleep at 3 am and the dog got me up at 6.30am - obviously getting his own back on me for dragging him from dreamland at 1am to roam the village streets in the rain.
Aww hope you can sort your sleep pattern soon as i understand your frustration. Try and have a pre-tuck down routine i.e. No heavy meals, tea of coffee after about 8.30pm then just sip a peppermint or camomile tea to relax before tucking down. Should you wake in the night keep fresh water by your bef and take a few sips or if you are in the wide awake club have another peppermint or camomile tea (or any soothing warm drink that has NO caffiene in it!) .
Also try to relax your mind if you wake. There are loads of sleep inducing thoughts you can use and lots of advice on the internet on this subject but obviously research this before you try to sleep as going online when u wake would make it worse!!
The worst thing to do is lie there telling yourself "I can't sleep" as thats all you will think of then so try and relax, sip a warm soothing drink if necessary and think happy relaxing thoughts. Sorry I know its not easy and may sounds cheesy but with a little practice it should help.
All the best and I hope you can get a good nights sleep soon. ππ΄
Thanks hun. I am not the best of sleepers, never have been. My son has sleep apnoea amongst other things and I think you get used to sleeping lightly. Last night I was just wide awake, so didn't lay there at all, preferring to walk the ( very miffed) dog instead. Got to sleep at around 3 am and up again at 6.30 am with the said miffed dog, lol. π
Awww well good for you for your determination to hang on in there. Its not always easy I know but you have the right positive sttitude so you' ll get thereπ good luck and keep it up ππβοΈ
Hi ShellieL, A familiar situation. It might be your re-energized cells thanking you and wanting you to continue exercising... more more more.
Seriously though. The tea and dry cracker are good. Carrot sticks are nice to have on hand. Like your determination.
I started seriously exericising this summer - had supposedly just retired. Took each complete morning to go on hikes, go to the gym, to the pool, the sauna afterwards.
Strangely, I experienced trouble sleeping the first month. Also felt stimulated mentally. Have a book that bores you by the bedside and keep your regime. I also decided I was too young to retire and am going back to work. Cheers!
Hi hun, thanks for your response. I am not good at sleeping, never have been. The fact I work permanent nights doesn't help either as my body has trained itself to work through tiredness at late hours, so on my nights off if I am not asleep by around 11pm then I am screwed!! My son has sleep apnoea too amongst other things, so I have slept quite lightly for many years.
I worked permanent nights for about 18 years, did ward round about 4am and am quite convinced that your brain/body so gets used to it that its programmed into your lifestyle. I usually wake many times approx 4am
Not sleeping is so tricky as the food gremlin is awake too! I promised mine a really yummy breakfast with lots of hot porridge....the sound of the rain made me want that at 3 this am. But as the morning came, the food gremlin had forgotten all about it. Is your food gremlin like that too?
Hope you got back to sleep or at least had a bit of a rest. It's pants when that happens, I'm a rubbish sleeper, go to bed late and get up early normally between 3:30-6 am, not good.
When you are tired it is difficult to stop the urges for food that is not good for us. It sounds like you did well with crackers though.
Hope you manage to get a sleep or at least get an early night.
I don't sleep well but fortunately when I go back downstairs I make myself a camomile tea and go on computer to keep mind and hands busy. Just wish I could do that 8pm is, but hey I am doing it now-must do this every night to stop me overeating -have stayed within calories, did pick a little but counted it in with calorie allowance.
Well done that you didn't weaken and give in to nibbles.
