Bike ride into work.......

It was actually refreshing and enjoyable. I took my time , had a shower when I got to work and I’m feeling really good. It helps that the sun is shining. Well pleased - I will update tonight with my overall thoughts.

Ooh, well done you, I'll look out for your update. How far is your journey and what's your normal mode of travel?

It’s 7 miles...... usual mode of transport is the bus. Leeds has spent a fortune on cycle path, so I felt super safe - I really enjoyed it! 🤪

Cycling is one of the best calorie burners...especially where hills are involved. My daughter has a bike-mad boyfriend and in joining him on rides, working up from short pleasure trips to 40 mile charity rides, and lately, even a race.....she has lost probably 4 stones and gained in confidence and self belief! Keep it up...maybe plan a trip with a friend...who knows how toned and lean you will end up!

How much longer does it take you to get to work - including the shower?

You could ride slowly, and avoid having to spend time having a shower - but a five-minute shower does not take long.

Many decades ago I cycled to work - but it was only about two miles... and there was no shower.

My son cycles about 12 miles from near Wimbledon to Canary Wharf most days.

To be honest, it’s around the same time including the shower. Although Leeds has good cycle routes the buses leave a lot to be desired.... plus I’m more reliable (i think) than the buses. I’m take it easy until I’ve built up my fitness so tomorrow it will be back on the bus😔

If you want to be reliable, make sure you carry a pump, tyres levers, a spare inner tube and a charged mobile phone. Could you get a taxi at short notice if you needed one?

Good for you! I cycle commute too, but less distance. Having bike lanes, showers etc makes it much more achievable. I agree that cycling is more reliable than bus commuting and more flexible too!

Soooooooooo. It was a difficult ride home.... lots of hills, and a head wind which never seemed to change direction, even when I did. Had to stop a couple of times, but I’m super pleased with myself. I thought if I could do that twice to start with, my cycling fitness should improve. I was a bit worried that I would be a hungry hippo when I got home , but I’m okay, sticking to my count. I think I’m going to sleep like a log tonight, which will be nice. Bus/walk tomorrow nothing too much ..... step by step day by day 😀
