Just being here is going to help because you’ll get so much advice and support. One of the Admin team will be along soon with some introductory stuff and I’d really recommend coming into the Daily Diary to share your food and exercise plans. Good luck and see you soon!
Hello Syds and welcome to the forum
It can be very hard to find the motivation, but you need to want to loose weight to be successful at it. Maybe by joining in with us here and reading posts on a daily basis and taking part in some of challenges will help to motivate you.
How are you planning on loosing it? Are you going to follow a calorie controlled diet or are you thinking of following a low carb high fat diet?
You might find that trying a different way and trying different foods will also help. It will make it more interesting

Hi syds. I am also new, still learning this site, but I am already blown away by the support people give to each other. I am sure you will also find support.
As the other members said, motivation is a key element. If you don't have it yet, try to find it. My idea is that you put two columns on a piece of paper. "Now" and "At Dream Weight". List things where you see yourself differently. Then you can evaluate them, for example, colour code them. I hope, the future will be brighter 😁
As also said, join a club, challenge, conversation, plan, etc.
By the way, motivation is not always there. I have struggled for nearly two years but now I am back on track (almost).
Can I ask what style of eating plan you are following? If you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the 1400/1900 calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, please check your own personal calorie target using the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think. We always advise starting towards the top of the range, being hungry is the biggest cause of weight loss failure.
I also highly recomend coming onto the forum regularly, daily if you can, reading posts and replying to others. Being part of a community is proven to help weight loss, it’s a great motivator to speak to others in the same position 😊
Use the forum as often as you can and join in chats

Hello Yellow23 - my motivation was I didn't want to get so big I couldn't wipe my backside any more. Have you looked at the Low Carb High Fat diet - keto. You can fill up with higher fat food (although not crisps and crap like that) and still lose weight. It is also clinically proven to help people with epilepsy - in fact it was originally developed to treat children with epilepsy way back in the early 1900s. Let us know how you get on. Good luck!
Hi Syds
It’s so hard to get motivated! I finally found mine in January and I’m not letting it go! 😂Exercise definitely helps even just a little bit each day , I have started walking for 20 mins at lunchtime and it makes a big difference to weight loss and mental motivation.
Once you start to lose weight you will be motivated to lose more. Everyone is lovely on here and so supportive. Good luck and remember we are here cheering you on! X
"Banting" - its not a diet but an eating regime for life, and you will not feel hungry - I've lost 2 1/2 stone in 8 months and have never felt hungry or had the typical diet blues / headaches!
Banting is another LCHF plan so have a look at the phcuk link above 😊
Thanks - looked at the link and have noted some "Banting" proponents in the references (Zoe Harcombe, Robert Lustig and Asif Malhotra) - no references to Gary Taubes is perhaps a surprise.
I've read Tim Noakes' "Lore of Nutrition" (hard read) twice, along with Gary Taubes' "Good Calories, Bad Calories" - why LCHF isn't taught as standard I don't know!.
I'd tried almost everything before - Cambridge, Banana, Boiled Egg, Cabbage Soup, Slimfast, Hay, South Beach, 5/2, calorie counting, etc. - Banting works and keeps weight down.
youve made a good start by coming on here so keep that up, pick a plan that suits you join a weighing day and take it in small steps. and good luck
