I'm on bipolar medication called olanzapine ,and my highest weight was 131 kg ,but I have managed to lose some of that weight. All I'm asking am I the only one who had this happen to me?

According to Google, weight gain is a common side-effect of olanzapine. Why not have a word with your GP and see if there's a possible alternative for you, Ibbi?

Hi Ibbi, I take Olanzapine and Priadel for bipolar and am currently 20 stone. My doctor said after seventeen years of keeping well, I could try stopping the Olanzapine(because I am so heavy) and manage just episodically, but I haven't been able to manage this for more than a few days without my sleep pattern becoming disturbed. Personally, I feel Olanzapine is a great drug and my weight loss on this site is going well(week 3), week 2 PMT week(double meds) I gained 1lb. I wish you well and hope this helps.

The planning, especially in Daily Diary(which should be up soon for Friday) is helping me. I declare to the world what I am eating and that seems to work. I am taking it 1/2 stone at a time, small steps. Let me know how you get on :)

It’s up now Hopalong1 🙂

I have Bipolar Disorder 2 and take Seroquel, Venlalic and a Diazepam or two. I am not too overweight (I am 5'8", 67 yo and weigh 180lbs) I don't eat much sugar and always seem to be on a diet. I put the extra 10lbs down to BP drugs it must be that.

Hi i hope you re fine ,can you tell me how long have you been on med ?the dose of diazipam? Can you live normal not sleeping all the time ?please tell me is sorequel like olanzapine ,thanks

Hi - I have been on Diazepam since 1983 when I was diagnosed with anxiety. I have always taken one x 5mg although I will take another if I'm in crowds. I never did gain weight with this and often went running, to the gym and so on. I even had a little six pack at one point! So I wasn't overweight taking just Diazepam and I will confess to drinking every night too, a lot sometimes. I was a professional touring DJ. When I got the very welcome diagnosis of Bipolar 2 I was put on seroquel and then put on weight which I just cannot shift. I only need 10 pounds to go. I don't know about seroquel and olanzapine. Hi again. I know Googling things is easy but to be honest there are some very bad and misinformed websites out there... I would say stick to this community, the NHS website or Patient.info :)

My son takes it and is on a gluten and casein free diet and he hasn’t put weight on. Maybe depends how much is taken.

I take 150mg sertraline 100mg limotrogen daily I'd like to know the same. Do these drugs put weight on? It's bad enough having to take them. If anyone can let me know. I think Ibbi do they slow down metabolism? Doctors dont give us side effects do they unless we ask or somthing goes wrong these days. Xxx
