Hi I'm Elissa, I am constantly battling with my weight I loose weight and feel happy but then when my weight starts to got back up I plumet and just get discouraged, I am quite active in my Job as a cleaner and I also do regular exercise each week, I'm just frustrated my weight will not stay off.

I have been doing the NHS eat well diet for 6 months but I've been embarrassed to go and get weighed because I've put weight on again.

I just desparately need help, I just want to do better.

(My weakness is bread and sweet things when I'm down)

Hello elissabluebell and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺ (Please note if you are using the new HU App these facilities aren't available yet so you may prefer to use the full website version)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Hey Elissa

Why don't you buddy up with someone?

When I went to Weight Watchers a few years ago I went with a friend and we encouraged each other just by talking about what we have done during the week and how we went about it.

Even if you don't have a good week you still get support from physically talking to a person rather than looking on a board with people like me posting comments 😬

Hope it all works out

Hi elissabluebell , I also have sweet tooth so completely understand the need to grab something sugary to make yourself feel better. It usually disappoints me that the minute the Ripple has finished, I feel bad because I gave in and want another one anyway! It's a viscious circle.

We have to break the circle with short term 'pain' to gain back our sense of sweet taste.

So, if you force yourself not to eat sweets/chocolate/biscuits/cake/anything with an immediate sugar-taste hit for THREE days, I promise you will be able to go to half sugar portions after that and really taste the sweetness. I just stopped adding loads of sugar to hot drinks, cereals, fruit puds and all sorts after that because even a little bit tasted super-sweet.

You will still be able to go back to your habits after the 'sugar fast' but if you let your taste guide you about how little you can get away with, you won't need it so much. We CAN get beyond the craving!

Perhaps you could be kind to yourself in other ways? The fact that you are concerned with your health and trying to do something about it deserves heaps of praise and encouragement - just not sweets if you can help it.

Good luck!

Elissa has given a very good response. I am a Gold Member at my local Weigh Watchers. Once I had lost the 3 stones I needed to lose some years ago and became a Gold Member, my friend and I still make sure we attend Weight Watchers once a month together, as its easier to lose 2lbs than 2 stones. If you get to your ideal weight it does tend to pile on again almost without your noticing which is why we keep an eye on ourselves this way.

Hi Elissa, I think we may live near each other, if you fancy meeting up and walking together let me know ok

Best wishes Rosie
