New to this and needing help

Hi everyone.

I am about 6-7st overweight and I have horrible back pain. I had a crisis last week and this week so I have come to the realisation that I must lose that weight, for my own sake. I have tried several times to join a gym but always end up quitting because my partner pressures me and because I feel horribly embarrassed and feel like people judge me at the gym (I know they don't but I still feel it).

Is there a group of people starting out now? Maybe we can help each other, keep each other accountable and motivated? I don't want to quit again, I want to feel like myself again.

Help?

Hi! We all help each other on here. You will never be alone as someone always replies to support. You can do this! I suggest you focus on what you eat rather than exercise. If you have that much to lose then you can lose weight just by eating less calories. You can always do walking until you feel more comfortable with the gym. I know people who start with exercise but then end up eating more either because they are hungry or because they think they can justify it because they have been to the gym. I have about 5 stone left to lose. Let's do it together!

Hi and welcome, Mishakat :)

Don't feel embarrassed we've all been in that boat. When I started, I needed to lose 8.5 stone to reach healthy BMI but I only have 1.5st to go. If I can do it, so can you :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi, I am in the same boat as you I need to lose at least 5 stone.. Although NHS say I need to loose 11 stone (not happening, I would be skin and bone). I have 4 prolapse discs and OA so often on medication to relieve pain. I joined the gym last November I was 3 months pregnant but I knew if I didn't join then I wouldn't join ever. I also get very embarrassed in the gym and always think people are looking at me like the Fat girl. (I am, but it's still not nice lol) I found a quiet gym and I went right at the end of the day normally between half 8 and 10 at night so it was reasonably quiet anyway. I did short burst of Cardio to get me started. I used to love the feeling when I left the gym I felt like I had more energy. I was going 3 times a week as well as swimming. I had to freeze my membership when I got too big, but my son is nearly 2 months and I am gagging to get back. It's a big step to cross but once you can crossed it, you can hold you head high as your are trying to better yourself.. I am always here is you want to message or talk. I struggle for years to actually start the gym and finally got into it.

Go for it, be proud of the change your trying to make..
