Hi, I joined this week too. I am 63 years old and also gave health problems that would be much improved if I could loose about 3stone.

I hope we both have a great first week.

Youve took the first step and joining this forum is helping me!

I started eating breakfast which for me was a massive issue and i miss it now if i dont have it. I have picked up some great ideas for new meals and snacks and everyone is helpful and non judgemental here so youll have lots of support!

Hi and I hope both you and SoSueMe find what you need here.

I am a little older, also have multiple health conditions and wanted some support while I tackled a weight loss programme after getting diagnosed with diabetes a few weeks ago. So far so good!

I am doing low carb to control diabetes without drugs, which is working very well. I've also lost a load of weight in spite of not being able to exercise.

Hello Hidden and a very warm welcome 😊

Well done on taking that first step, and also for identifyiing the importance of the right mindset. Like you, I had a real scare, health wise, and realised that no food was worth feeling so afraid, that nothings tastes as good as healthy feels 😊

We recomend having a sensible target, 1-2lbs per week. Having enough to eat is vital, if you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the 1400 calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, so check your calorie target on the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think.

Please take a look at the Welcome Newbie Post here for advice about how they forum works and all the things we have on offer. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Hi and welcome Hidden

I started my weight loss journey at 14 stone - 6 years ago. I am just 4ft 9" tall and so was classed clinically obese.

I was 49 years old and had been trying to lose weight all of my life since the age of 9. I have a disability which makes exercise difficult (I am very sedentary and use a wheelchair outside of the house).

The one thing that I realised very early on in my journey was that I was just eating FAR TOO MUCH! I was a short, middle aged, sedentary female and I was eating the same as 5ft 9" active man (my now husband!). No wonder I was piling on the weight!

I started my journey at the end of February 2012, and managed to lose 4.5 stone in 2 and a half years through calorie counting and logging/weighing all of my food.

Then re-gained some, lost some again and have now managed to more or luess maintain for the past 6 months at around 10 stone. Still considered "over weight".

Ideally I would love to drop another stone to 9 stone and maintain there.

Here are a few of my past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring. I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - and you'll see that there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.

Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it.

Hi Pineapple, thank you for your helpful reply and the links. I am sure I eat much too much, I fight to get it under control even though when I do I am happier. Its getting the right mindset.

I want a long life and to see my grandchildren grow up,you would think that would be enough,I don't understand my self sabotage. I am hoping being part of a group will help.

Hi woolfelt, I am 61 and joined the forum last week (still finding my way around). I need to lose 3 stone. I've just started my 3rd week with the NHS 12 week program & have lost 5lbs. Like you I have struggled over the last few years to get into the right mindset, even though I could list so many reasons for wanting to lose the weight & get fit. Here's hoping this group will help us to stay motivated & achieve our aims.
