Some one who knows more than me will be along soon. This is a great group of supportive people with a wealth of knowledge to share.
Hi, Missymoomumjo , Welcome
How active can you be now, and how active were you?
Many of us forum members here are losing weight (or maintaining) without doing (or being able to do) any exercise... but, if you are now less active, you might have to adjust your appetite! (It took me some time).
Good morning Missymoomumjo and welcome to the weight loss forum.
My tips would be:-
1. Get yourself a plan you can stick to: many of us, including me, have found the 12 week plan a good starting point: you need to get a suitable calorie range from the NHS BMI calculator as 1400 is a generic figure and suits very few of us
2. Make good use of all this forum has to offer: it's a fantastic source of information and support if you just come here regularly, not necessarily posting, but joining in the Events and Challenges: you could start by coming along to the Sunday Super Slimmers weigh-in here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
To help you find your way around, we’ve put all the information you’ll need in a Newbie pack and here's the link healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

By the way, it would be interesting to know how you found your way to this forum
Keep it simple... If eating too much was what got you overnight then eat less!
See this as a healthy lifestyle. Your body has to last you forever 😎
Swimming is really great as it doesn’t put any pressure on the joints and when you have built up then do some aqua aerobics still no pressure on the joints but it can be quite strenuous. Long term you must do some weight bearing exercise as well or you will loose bone and muscle mass. Best of luck. I bought a yearly pass and struggled to do a class (Pilates, yoga, body balance) every day but now I’m flying through them and really enjoying them too. Stops me seizing up and I can see the results on my belly fat too.
You might consider yoga. Not all of the poses are back friendly, but it is a slower paced type of exercise and you can figure out which ones you can do. Also, many people underestimate the huge benefits of just 15 minutes of brisk walking 5 days a week (as long as you are consistent). Sometimes, physical therapists and fitness instructors are useful in helping you find exercises you can do to work around your back issues if you know one personally.
