I'm afraid I'm no expert, Tree-hugger, but a quick Google search shows the main difference being that the band is reversible and the sleeve isn't.

When I arrived here, I had a BMI of 44 and was also desperate to lose weight. I achieved my aim without having to undergo surgery, which carries it's own risks and complications. I'm sure that with our help, you'll be able to do the same :)

I'm on a tier four weight loss program.. but joined this forum august 2017 .. to get ideas to start my weight loss journey... Up to date I've lost 10st 8lb and have just been referred by tier four weight loss team to st Richards hospital and the bariatric surgeon.. I understand from my health advisor that they don't offer the gastric band at this particular hospital... But I'm really in two minds whether to go ahead with it as I only have another 5st 4lb to go to reach the target I set myself... Yes the weights not going so fast now about 1lb a week and at times I don't lose for couple of weeks.. but I keep going with the help of this forum... Good luck with your weight loss journey

I think whatever option is offered it’s a major decision. My friend had part of her stomach removed, but she had to reduce her calories to 800 per day for a month prior to surgery so her liver would cope with the surgery.

In the meantime, have a good look around the forum and think about how you can change your current eating behaviour. There are many of us on here who never imagined permanent weight loss was possible but it is 😊

Best wishes

Indigo
