Hi vixs19, Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear you have been ill and in hospital. Please don't think you need to apologize for your "doom and gloom". We are all here to help each other. Today I feel ok, so I feel able to answer your post and hopefully help you to seek the proper help you need to get well. It is quite common to feel low in mood after illness. I don't know if you have family or friends close by, but if you do, perhaps talking to them about how you feel might help. Your GP will know all about your condition and how an illness can leave you feeling depressed. He/she might suggest ways to help yourself through exercise. It's a great mood lifter and doesn't have to be a full workout in the gym. A 15 minute walk every day will help. I don't know if you are physically able to, so check with your GP the sort of things that you can do. This forum is here 24/7, so if you want to have a moan, do so, we don't mind. I really hope you feel better very soon, but either way, please keep in touch.

It's tough being ill. Your head does tend to go off on "is this it?" flights of fancy. Fortunately, things sort themselves out 99% of the time ...

Can I ask exactly what happened and why you're on antibiotics and steroids? There is often a lot you can do to help yourself.

Oh darling, you’re not ‘doomed’. Illness is really tough on you physically and mentally, it can leave you feeling like you’ll never be right again and that your quality of life is not that great. However, it takes time to recover from illness and it’s hard to see the long term picture.

I too was very ill three years ago and it’s been a rocky road since. Medication and an inability to move much caused me to gain a lot of weight. I have lost around a stone and a half of it but it has taken me around 18-20 months to do that.

I’ve improved my physical fitness gently. Physio in the early days, then gradually walking more and more. Walking is great because you can do it anytime, in any weather and go as far as you like. I’m so lucky to live near the sea and the woods and I never regret getting out to breathe in the salty air or the dank air of the woods.

I hope you find your path, it sounds to me as though you need to concentrate primarily on your mental health, the weight is secondary.

I used to think that being thin and healthy were the key to happiness, but they’re not, it’s how you feel inside, and if you begin to look for the positives, you’ll start to find them. Be gentle with yourself, and give yourself time.

Good luck, you will not always feel this low, it will get better if you give it chance. X

Thank you. ❤️

No you're not doomed but it can feel that way when you have been poorly as it's a trauma that you come to terms with over time.

I felt the same way back in December when I was released from the hospital after I had a blood clot that travelled to my lungs that I was doomed and I was frightened as well and the crap surgery I was with at the time didn't help matters so I dumped them and moved to a better one where the doctor I saw there was nice and I am OK to see her again in a couple of weeks time for an anticoagulant review which shouldn't be a problem but no one likes going to the doctors do they and lots are terrified of them and won't even go to the doors of a surgery!

I had times when I felt low as well after my blood clot and it all felt worse due to the fact it was Christmas but I told myself how everyone goes through hard times which sort of helped and I had made the effort to go to the companies Christmas party just so something nice would have happened and I went but didn't stay very long and everyone there was so kind and caring to me.

With activity when I was discharged I asked sister would I be able to do walking and she said yes that's the best you can do build up gradually and stop if you get short of breath.

That I did and the physical symptoms went away quite quick. It was the psychological ones that were more challenging to deal with and the crap surgery where I had gone for help and was shouted at, had things don't without explanation, received a rude call for an anticoagulant review which I can laugh about now but it had upset me at the time!

Final straw was one afternoon I had gone to pick up a prescription at the pharmacy only to be told I wasn't having it as I was to go for a blood test and it was sprung on me like that no talking me through it or explaining anything and I never did as I was sick of their attitude so re registered at the new surgery where they were nice and friendly.

Point is the doctors are there to help those that are poorly not cause them additional harm!

Best of luck in your recovery!
