Hi I am 53 and have lost almost 8 stones in the last year, so now I'm trying couch to 5k.I have dodgy ligaments in my ankle so can only travel on paved surfaces but I survived week one and did run one of week two this morning.

Trying to run
Hi Fakenham3
Did you mean to post on the C25K forum? healthunlocked.com/couchto5k
Well done for losing 8 stone, that's phenomenal!
Well done Fakenham3 on the weight loss but also on the training! You will be amazing!
Good luck and great that you aren't letting the ankle issues stop you. Even surfaces are definitely going to be the best move, as I found trails very hard going on my ankles when I first moved to running in a more green area (but now I have ankles of steel of course!). I would point out that running on grass may be good too as it's a softer surface - if you can find an even-surfaced park perhaps. Good luck for week 2
hi Fakenham3 have you got a PARKRUN near you? It's free every Saturday morning walk, crawl, jog, run whatever you can do for 5k. It's BRILLIANT I walk mine in about 50 minutes, just looking to improve my personal best each time.
Look them up, you won't regret it. 😉
Have you joined your local parkrun for encouragement in your 5k challenge?
Well done Fakenham3!! I absolutely love running, once you get past the red tomato breathless phase ( it will get easier, I promise), it's fab. It blows away the cobwebs, clears your mind and worries. And then you're in endorphin city, pretty amazing all round really.
Obviously, you've got to look after your ankles, so take it nice and steady, take rest days and you will progress. I have found parks can be quite treacherous as the grass is often deceptively bumpy, so maybe stick with the even paths for now. But keep going, it doesn't matter if you think you're slow or whatever, I'm still slow. But I don't care, I run for my pleasure and personal challenges.
But this is not about me, forgive my mad ramblings, you're doing great, you've lost loads of weight already. Just think by next year you could have gotten the running bug, be doing ultra marathons.... Or just 5or 10kms like me!
