Holidays and meal ideas

Off to Spain tomorrow don’t want the diet to spoil the holiday or the holiday to spoil the diet! Any tips?

Also I find that I am not very organised and often don’t have time to eat properly, for instance yesterday I grabbed some smoked mackerel for lunch an ate it out of the packet but miss out on the fibre. Any ideas to add quick fibre? A grab and go sort, not fruit?

Thank you.

I think if you're determined to start a healthier lifestyle, Toowobbly, then you must also be determined to make the changes necessary to facilitate that. Success is down to forward planning, so learning to be organised would be the way forward for you, to get beyond the 'diet' mentality.

I realise you don't have much time now, before your holiday, but have a look through today's Daily Diary and some of the past DD's, to see the effort that goes into success.

While you're in Spain, my advice would be to stick to fresh produce, limit alcohol and junk food and get plenty of fresh air and exercise.

Have a super time! :)

You should be able to get great food in Spain Toowobbly , every bit as good as at home - fresh meat, fish, salad, veg. It will really come down to what choices you make as there'll be plenty of good options you can enjoy. Just think before you choose.

As for eating on the go, maybe sort that out when you come back. Give it some thought. You'll need to decide what changes you're going to make. If your lunch time is limited, then plan and prep the night before. Mackerel is great, and five/ten minutes putting a salad together the evening before would give you a good lunch.

Yes I think for me it will work to have a salad prepared the night before so I can dip in quickly, same for roasted veg. That will be the way to go. Maybe brown rice salad too? I just need some staples to simplify it as if I make it too intense or a negative experience at meal times I will struggle/ panic then I just don’t eat anything and get starving and desperate - not good. Thank you.

I noticed in the supermarket that they’ve reusable lunch salad boxes, complete with a knife and fork. It takes a big salad with a top tray for chopped veggies and even a dip pot. I’m investing in one today! It’s a small thing, but it’d help me because I know I’d enjoy filling it. I think Tupperware may be my new “stationary”. Good luck on your hols and enjoy 😉

Waitrose, a bit pricey so I stopped myself. But with hindsight, I need to plan for when I’m back in September. They are really good and I NEED it 😊

If you're thinking of reducing carbs, you could try bulgur wheat or quinoa. I do bulgur wheat with veg stock (from a pot) and add chopped tomatoes, peppers, roast veg. herbs etc - you can add anything you like. Makes a good side salad.

Have a look in salad recipes under Topics - there have been a lot added in recent weeks, not surprisingly :) Lettuce is good but there's so much more.

Oh I’m in same boat toowobbly, as I’m sure many of us here are.

I’m planning on just eating my normal shakes during the day ( I make my own from scratch so am taking electric whisk in suitcase 😳)

If I fast fir most of the day I should be able to go out for dinner and eat to maintain rather than out in weight.

I can’t drink due to menopause flushing so at least no worries there!

I’ll just choose low carb options, we’ve booked an air bnb and I have even researched and contacted nearby gyms in case I have the energy fir a couple of proper workouts

Tbh I’m trying to do the whole new lifestyle thing which means I always make healthy choices , this isn’t a diet it’s forvever etc etc

Ps am also taking Hartley 10 cal jelly’s in suitcase for sweet treat
