I'm new. Officially overweight. Any advice/tips please on best routines for using this site would be very much appreciated.
Need to cook for three adults every day. Tend to do big hearty meals ; spag Bol, chilli, casseroles, fish fingers,roast meals once a week. Sandwiches for lunch, and lunch boxes. Toast and cereals for breakfast. Plus snacks in between. Do have a fruit bowl but not big into it. Walk regularly. Have a lot of joint pain. I do comfort eat a lot. Like to swim now nd then.

Hello and welcome . I would start with portion size as when I cook I tend to share equally. Maybe do something light and add a jacket potato or an extra side for the adults that you have to feed . Joint pain - mine eased as pounds came off . Now lost 12 kg . Try strapping that to my knees !
Hi there! I'm a newbie too, and also cooking for others. It's hard. It's particularly hard to be in the kitchen and not nibble when you are really hungry and having to put food together for everyone else in the house. I so feel your pain! I have discovered that -- for me -- my portion control was way out of whack, so that might be a useful place to start, as focused1 has said.
Is there any way you can share the cooking chores? At the very least, all of you need to sit down so you can discuss what you want to change for yourself. Is that possible in your situation?
Hi Jellyncustard You have the great advantage that your diet is based around home cooked foods which is a wonderful starting point.I wonder whether it would help to reassess your snack intake? As long as you don't cut down on your hearty meals too much so that you are not starving, you could probably get from one meal to the next without snacking.It's possible you snack out of habit rather than because you are hungry. It's just a question of gradually breaking the habit. I never snack between meals now, but will have a cup of tea if others are snacking, or if I want a break from whatever I am doing.If you do feel you have to have a snack, you could try becoming better friends with your fruit bowl?!? (I'm lucky in that I adore fruit)

Best of luck on your journey! There are some great ideas for meals on here - use the recipes on the right hand side for inspiration. Following (and joining in) with the daily diaries always helps me as well!
Nothing wrong with good hearty meals - as already mentioned above - consider portion sizes and also think of alternative, healthier swaps in these meals - prime example is a shepherds pie with half the mincemeat and half lentils and sweet potato instead of normal potato ... This is a great way of making similar meals but with a healthier (and for me) tastier twist!
